"Anyone with an interest in underground film or occultism, especially Thelema, should check this film out. Of Course as a "Crowleyite" Ken's film is very rich and extreme and he combines some striking imagery with some beautiful music. I have no idea what the music is that he uses but he manages to relate the on screen imagery to it perfectly.

Quite possibly, the most incomprehensible film every made, Kenneth Anger's INAUGURATION OF THE PLEASURE DOME deserves a place in cultural, if not film history. Arcane satanic references merged with bizarre hallucinogenic Egyptian rituals, and all done with a straight face, are endlessly fascinating to any student of the subculture of Hollywood and San Francisco in the post-war years."

"A very strange film. The sound track - done on a Moog synthesizer - is repetitious and droning, which adds to the atmosphere, though can be annoying if you're not "into it". It's creepy. There really isn't a lot to say - only watch this film if you understand what you're getting into. By far more creepy and off-putting than most modern Hollywood horror films, in part because the film style gives it a more immediate presence. The cinematography isn't polished, the sound and setting aren't polished, but that's half of what makes it work so well."

"Entertaining, slow moving, insightful, and sometimes shocking fourth installment to the Kenneth Anger short film collection; it possesses all these attributes, as well as being influential to experimental directors of today. Marianne Faithful makes an appearance in the film, as well as an assortment of 60's notables, which includes Manson family member Bobby Beausoleil who also wrote the film's score.

I've had this in my collection for a good decade and still rate it very highly. The editting and sybolism fuse into a stunning whole which seems to put the viewer into an altered state. My favorite sequence is the bathtub/spear/murder scene. This film works on you, so watch out. I think Anger once said he wished he could bypass film completely and project images directly into the viewer's mind. This comes close enough!

The score for the movie was composed by the incarcerated killer Bobby Beausoleil, one of the infamous Charles Manson family killers. He was in jail when he made the score."

I love those. "Pleasure Dome" & "Demon Brother" are really, really disturbing.
