In his 1997 film The Painter expression (or abstract expressionist painting) is pushed beyond even the subconscious level and becomes totally primal. McCarthy's painter manages to slip through the cracks of the art machine's neatly arranged order and into the deep, dark recesses of creativity where no member of the intelligencia would dare to go, believe you me. This painter is kind of an idiot-savant as pronounced by his big, plastic, bulbous nose, overgrown hair and outpatient costume, who makes ridiculously messy paintings using super-large tubes of red, yellow, blue and "shit". He is powered by fits of temper and tends to violate any sanctity left in the act of painting. His oversized fingers prevent him from making anything near delicate so instead he throws the paint, slashes the canvas and threatens his dealer to give him money for it. Is he a product of circumstances? Or is this pure unadulterated expression beaming forth? Or both? What drives the artist to create?

Btw, for the gorehounds: as you see in the first cap, the guy at one point cut one of his gummy fingers off with an axe (it takes some time)
No, really, this is funny stuff

hehe was reading about the ROMANTIC NIHILISM exhibition he had,the guy sounds totally freaky some of the pictures for his work look so great,I'd not heard shit about him untill now, looks like he's a cross between Andy Kaufman,Joe Coleman & Damian Hirst can't wait to see this now, huge thanks trep, its late now but will have to hunt more info on him.

 "MacCarthy's bunkhouse involves a mad dog mannequin seemingly getting a blowjob from a woman. All done up in Disney plastic, a view from another window shows an extremely violent act: The dog is mechanically slamming a steel rod (instead of penis) not into the mouth of the man we discover, but into his eye. The little red house moved on a grid to what effect I could not discern. I casually asked several French female visitors what they thought. "Disgusting," said one, laughing. "That's pornographic," said another, clearly fascinated."
