well reason i made it 700mb is i wanted it to be good quality so i thought it would turn out fine and i dont know how to crop..This film genesis was also a right bitch to even rip it simply couldnt rip aftermath did but not genesis i had to do it on my stand alone recorder.

Thing is Ferox, you can get a perfectly good rip of a 90 minute movie in 700MB, so a 30minute movie (like Aftermath) would warrant a third of that filesize and still be good quality.

Roughly 90minutes @ 700MB = 7.78MB per minute

30minutes x 7.78Mb = 233.33MB

So a file size of 250MB would have been more than adequate for Aftermath, which is what Spud's getting at.

The borders is a different story, waste of bitrate encoding black areas of the screen etc. as has been said in many different threads.

I've skipped through the files and they look ok to me. I'll post the iMBT releases as a new release into the hq section. (where they should be)

Encoding:

1. Always remove borders. They steal a lot of the available data for the picture, and reoving borders gives more options for people to resize, use widescreen and other things.

2. When it comes to XviD, any bitrate above ~1200kbps is pretty much wasted. At that point, the increase in bitrate doesn't justify any quality-improvements.

When it comes to short movies, I stick with the "two per cd" philosophy, ie. keep the size of the rip to just under 350mb. Depends on how long it is of course, but that's nevertheless the rule I use for stuff under ~45 minutes in length.
