Out of curiosity, is there any reason you didn't crop it?

I had a copy of the laserdisc, and that was in widescreen. It's not a big problem to do that if you like. It's only taking 1:30 min. I can just start it and watch a movie, then put out a new version.

But I think it's a waste of bitrate to leave those nasty black borders, that's all.
