Four teenagers go on a woods hike and encounter a creepy forest ranger and a
crazy old man. The old man is a scientist who had found a mysterious book bound
in human skin, the Necronomicon, and when he had read its cryptic symbols it conjured
monsters into existence. The teenagers keep the book, and are then persued
by monsters, a demonic cult, and the ranger. The ranger turns out to be a red flying
devil in human disguise.

The original version of this film is intitled "The Equinox: A Journey Into the Supernatural"
(1967) directed by Dennis Muren. This version used the same cast, but includes
stop-motion animaition not seen in the release version, a totally different stortline,
doesn't include the character Asmodeous, has a completely different music score,
differently filmed versions of scenes which were in the released film and other
differences. Jack Woods is credited for writer and director of the release version.

I've ripped both versions from VHS -> DVDR -> AVI. The 1970 version is availiable
on criterion DVD, but i haven't seen the 1967 version anywhere else.

Many thanks, great flick, both versions. I hear the 1970 version is supposed to come out on DVD from Criterion soon. The 1967 version is a real rarity, and I`m looking forward to seeing that, but haven`t found a complete source.

Sorry, i am sharing them during the daytime but im also trying to finish
a 18gb torrent download of the 4 disc evil dead trilogy DVD. if i run both
apps at the same time they both slow to a crawl for both u/l & d/l so im
splitting my time between them. once ive finished the torrent in a few days
i'll have both files on permanant share.

Sorry, yes, ive discovered the wonder that is bittorrent so i'm not running emule at
the moment. the jack woods version has been released by criterion on DVD so i was in
two minds whether to rip that. the real rare one is the 1967 version. i'll start sharing
them both again.

On share again, but I'm not sure you'll be able to see me, as I'm behind a NAT.

Sorry, I can't do anything about that. You can only hope to see me through source exchange or Kad, in other words, wait a couple of days and decide if it's worth it.

Is there any difference between the 1967 version found here and that on the Criterion 2-DVD set?
