The H.P. Lovecraft Collection

HOWARD PHILLIPS LOVECRAFT (20 August 1890–15 March 1937) is probably best known as a writer of weird fiction, but some believe his voluminous correspondence to be his greatest accomplishment. Credited as building one of the most respected and detailed mythological fictions of all time even rivalling Tolkien, due to Tolkien’s borrowing from existing lore.

There is a misconception that Lovecraft took information from Sumerian histories and that the Necromonicon was in fact in existence before he wrote about it in the novella ‘The Hound” The many 1970’s “fake” editions witch arose including one used by the Church of Satan, expanded this myth. These have no relevance to the real Lovecraft stories.

Yet it illustrates the true genius of a man that imagined monsters, formed by, and forming, our darkest desirers and fears. He imagined living breathing creatures just out of reach of our reality, horror concepts so powerful that many believe he was closer to religion than simply creating powerful words to stir the imagination.

He has inspired hundreds of writers from around the globe and the Old Ones are noted by many scholars as one of the fastest evolving modern myths of our time. Already literally scholars are finding it difficult to find the lines of the original works and the “growth” that has come of them. A growth that in a different age many may wounder how and weather we truly believed in such beings.

Die, Monster, Die! (1965)
ed2k: die,.monster,.die!.(1965.boris.karloff).avi
Movieinfo:Die, Monster, Die! @ IMDB
Additional Information:Also known as Monster of Terror, this film takes Lovecraft’s “The Colour Out of Space” and emphasizes the science-fiction aspects rather than the horror. Boris Karloff stars as scientist Nahum Witley, as opposed to farmer Nahum Gardner. This film is another example of a classic horror actor crippled by an awful script.
Review: A young man (Nick Adams) visits his fiance's estate to discover that her wheelchair-bound scientist father (Boris Karloff) has discovered a meteorite that emits mutating radiation rays that have turned the plants in his greenhouse to giants. When his own wife falls victim to this mysterious power, the old man takes it upon himself to destroy the glowing object with disastrous results.

The Haunting Place (AKA - The Terror) (1963)
ed2k: the.haunted.palace.1963.dvdrip.xvid-bloodweiser.avi
Release Thread:High Quality Section @ HHAH
Movieinfo:The Terror @ IMDB
Additional Information:For marketing reasons, director Roger Corman named this film after an Edgar Allan Poe poem, but it is actually based on Lovecraft’s The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Vincent Price stars as Charles Dexter Ward and Lon Chaney, Jr. stars as Simon Orne, but even these veteran actors can’t raise this film very far above average. Instead of Price acting in a dual role as both Ward and Joseph Curwen, the spirit of Curwen possesses him.
Review: A young officer in Napoleon's army pursues a mysterious woman to the castle of an elderly Baron where he discovers that she is the pawn of an old witch bent on driving the Baron to suicide.

The Dunwich Horror (1970)
ed2k: the.dunwich.horror.(1970).avi
Release Thread:High Qual Section @ HHAH
Movieinfo:The Dunwich Horror @ IMDB
Additional Information:Many of the elements of Lovecraft’s “The Dunwich Horror” were kept intact, including several of the character names: Wilbur Whateley (Dean Stockwell), Dr. Henry Armitage (Ed Begley, Sr.), Lavinia Whateley (Joanne Moore Jordan), and Old Wizard Whateley (Sam Jaffe). However, the addition of a female lead (Sandra Dee) and psychedelic special effects end up making this film pretty average.
Review: H.P. Lovecraft meets Hollywood: Wilbur Whateley wants to help the Old Ones break through by consulting the Necronomicon, and Armitage must stop him. Attractive females are added to fill out the plot.

Re-Animator (1985)
ed2k: re-animator.avi
Movieinfo:Re-Animator @ IMDB
Additional Information:Despite taking enormous liberties with Lovecraft’s “Herbert West – Reanimator”, this is one of the most entertaining and financially successful of Lovecraft films. Produced by Brian Yuzna and directed by Stuart Gordon, this scary and funny film stars Jeffrey Combs as Herbert West, Bruce Abbott as Dan Cain, Barbara Crampton as Megan Halsey, and David Gale as Doctor Carl Hill.
Other rips: reanimator.ac3.5.1.(djbenz).divx5.avi
Review: Stuart Gordon's adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's Herbert West: Re-Animator puts a Night of the Living Dead spin on the classic Frankenstein story. Jeffrey Combs furrows his brow and bugs his eyes as the preternaturally intense Herbert West, a maverick medical student whose gory, gooey experiments cause bloody corpses and body parts to jerk to life. Bruce Abbot is the studious roommate drawn into his extracurricular experiments, which soon involve the dean's daughter (the frequently naked Barbara Crampton) and the college's cadaverous, calculating star professor (David Gale), who literally loses his head over a battle for West's discovery. In this world, that's only a minor setback. Charged with sick gallows humor and a ghoulish gallery of undead beasties, Re-Animator, like Evil Dead II, is one of the most inspired and inventive--and funniest--horror films of the 1980s.

From Beyond (1986)
ed2k: from.beyond.(1986).avi
Release Thread:Reshare Request @ HHAH
Movieinfo:From Beyond @ HHAH
Additional Information:Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton of Re-Animator fame return in another Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon horror-fest. The events of Lovecraft’s short story “From Beyond” effectively take place before the opening credits roll, thus this fairly entertaining film could be considered a sequel to the story.
Review: Scientists create a resonator to stimulate the pineal gland (sixth sense), and open up a door to a parallel (and hostile) universe. Based on a story by H. P. Lovecraft.

The Unnamable (1988)
ed2k: the.unnamable.1988.vhsrip.divx-kamuix.avi
Release Thread:Lower Quality Section @ HHAH
Movieinfo:The Unnamable @ HHAH
Additional Information:Little more than a monster-kills-teenagers-having-sex movie, this film does manage to incorporate a few Lovecraftian references and the Necronomicon, although its relationship to Lovecraft’s “The Unnamable” are minimal.
Review: Back in the 1800's a lady gives birth to a monster. They decide that the baby is too ugly to name, therefore the monster is known as the "Unnamable". The creature brutally slaughters his family, and gets trapped in a vault. Go ahead to 1998, and some college students have heard the story about the unnamable and want to check out the vault...

Bride of Re-Animator (1990)
ed2k: bride.of.re-animator.(1990).avi
Movieinfo:Bride of Re-Animator @ IMDB
Additional Information:Both Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott return in this mediocre sequel to Re-Animator, which actually owes more to The Bride of Frankenstein. However, some scenes, including the final one in the tomb of the Averills, were directly inspired by the original story, “Herbert West – Reanimator”.
Review: Herbert West and his reluctant sidekick, Dr. Cain, return for another funny, gory round of bringing back the dead in bits and pieces. This time, West cons Cain into an attempt to rebuild his late girlfriend, using her preserved brain and body parts scrounged from the local hospital.

Necronomicon (1994)
ed2k: h.p.lovecraft's.necronomicon.(dvd.ripp.by.miky).english.un.cut.(dvix.5,05).avi
Release Thread:Reshare Request @ HHAH
Movieinfo:Necronomicon @ IMDB
Additional Information:An anthology of three tales, with an unintentionally laughable wrapper story called “The Library” featuring Jeffrey Combs as Lovecraft himself. Combs obtains a copy of the Necronomicon and is apparently reading these three tales from it! The first segment, “The Drowned,” is based very loosely on “The Rats in the Walls” and has a few genuinely atmospheric moments – but no rats! The second segment, “The Cold,” is based a little more solidly on “Cool Air” and stars David Warner, but a female protagonist was added. The last segment, “Whispers,” was supposedly based on “The Whisperer in Darkness”, but apparently underwent so much revision that the resemblance was lost. Altogether, a very average film
Other rips: necronomicon.1994.dvdrip.divx-abez.avi necronomicon-.book.of.dead.(1994).(h.p..lovecraft).avi
Review: H.P. Lovecraft, the well-known horror writer, is looking in the late thirties after the book 'Necronomicon'. He finds it guarded by monks in an old library. He then copies some stories from it, which unfold for our eyes- and his...

The Lurking Fear (1994)
ed2k: lurking.fear.(hp.lovecraft.1994).avi
Release Thread:Reshare request @ HHAH
Movieinfo:The Lurking Fear @ Yahoo Movies
Additional Information:One of the poorer Lovecraft adaptations yet, this film is only loosely based on Lovecraft’s “The Lurking Fear”. Other than the town of Lefferts Corners and the presence of the degenerate Martense family, this film bears little resemblance to the original story. Even the manic performance of Lovecraftian actor Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator and From Beyond) and Hellraiser’s Ashley Lauren[ce] can’t save this terrible film.
Review: Based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, this gruesome tale spotlights a town's attempts to rid itself of grotesque creatures breeding beneath the local graveyard, while gun-toting outsiders are hell-bent on retrieving a fortune buried in the ghouls' midst.

The Resurrected (1994)
ed2k: [divx-eng].h.p..lovecraft's.-.the.resurrected.(the.case.of.charles.dexter.ward).[dan.o'bannon.1992].avi
Release Thread:Lower Quality Section @ HHAH
Movieinfo:The Resurrected @ HHAH
Additional Information:Based on Lovecraft’s The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, this film is perhaps the most faithful Lovecraft film to date. Directed by Dan O’Bannon (who wrote the script for Alien) and starring Chris Sarandon (The Sentinel and The Princess Bride) as Charles Dexter Ward and Joseph Curwen. The scenes in the tunnels beneath Curwen’s house are especially impressive.
Review: Charles Dexter Ward's wife enlists the help of a private detective to find out what her husband is up to in a remote cabin owned by his family for centuries. The husband is a chemical engineer, and the smells from his experiments (and the delivery of what appear to be human remains at all hours) are beginning to arouse the attention of neighbors and local law enforcement officials. When the detective and wife find a diary of the husband's ancestor from 1771, and reports of gruesome murders in the area begin to surface, they begin to suspect that some very unnatural experiments are being conducted in the old house. Based on an H.P. Lovecraft story.

Dagon (2001)
ed2k: dagon.divx.2001.avi
Release Thread:Low Quality Section @ HHAH
Movieinfo:Dagon @ IMDB
Additional Information:ased more on “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” than on “Dagon”, Ezra Godden plays the protagonist and Francisco Rabal plays a difficult-to-understand version of Zadok Allen. The setting is terrific and the film is better looking than earlier Gordon productions, but the chase scene from “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” is strung out for much of the film yet lacks the manic energy of other Gordon films.
Review: Based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, the undisputed master of the macabre, Dagon tells the story of Paul Marsh, a young man who discovers that the truth will not set him free instead it condemns him to a waking nightmare of unrelenting horror. A boating accident off the coast of Spain sends Paul and his girlfriend Barbara to the decrepit fishing village of Imboca looking for help. As night falls, people start to disappear and things not quite human start to appear. Paul finds himself pursued by the entire town. Running for his life, he uncovers Imboca's dark secret: that they pray to Dagon, a monstrous god of the sea. And Dagon's unholy offspring are freakish half-human creatures on the loose in Imboca...

The Evil Dead (1981)
ed2k: evil.dead.1.1981.internal.dvdrip.xvid-notimportant.avi
Release Thread:The Evil Dead @ HHAH
Movieinfo:The Evil Dead @ IMDB
Additional Information:Sam Raimi’s directing debut and one of Bruce Campbell’s earliest roles, this manic film has become a cult classic. Essentially a zombie film, the mayhem is due to the discovery in a cabin in the woods of a copy of the Necronomicon. Tom Sullivan, well-known as an artist for the “Call of Cthulhu” roleplaying game, created the special make-up effects for the film, as well as the copy of the Necronomicon.
Review: Five friends go to a cabin in the woods for a vacation. They discover The Book of the Dead and a tape recorder belonging to a professor, who also owns the cabin. One of them plays back what is recorded on the tape-- which just happens to be Candarian resurrection passages translated from the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead) by the professor, which unleashes an evil force from the woods. The people start turning into evil deadites, and the others soon learn from the tape that the only way to kill a person who is turned into a deadite is by total body dismemberment. People are dying left and right; one girl early in the film looses control and runs off into the woods, only to be raped and killed by the trees.

Evil dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987)
ed2k: evil.dead.2.dead.by.dawn.1987.internal.dvdrip.xvid-notimportant.avi
Release Thread:Evil Dead 2 @ HHAH
Movieinfo:Evil Dead 2 @ IMDB
Additional Information:Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell return in what seems to be more a re-make of, than a sequel to, The Evil Dead. Though if you look closly the begining of this film is a recap. Fans seem to enjoy this film ever so slightly more than its predecessor.
Review: A man is trapped in the woods with undead spirits who possess the living.

Cast a Deadly Spell (1991)
ed2k: cast.a.deadly.spell.avi
Release Thread:Low Quality Section @ HHAH
Movieinfo:Cast a Deadly Spell @ IMDB
Additional Information:Fred Ward stars as a private eye named Harry Philip Lovecraft who lives in a 1940s Hollywood where everyone uses magic. David Warner hires Ward to retrieve his stolen copy of the Necronomicon so he can release the Old Ones. Not very Lovecraftian, despite all the references, but still fairly amusing.
Review: In 1948 Los Angeles, everyone uses magic- everyone except hard-boiled private detective H. Phillip Lovecraft, who refuses for "personal reasons." Lovecraft is hired by a mysterious rich man to recover a stolen book, the Necronomicon. Investigating, he finds that the book holds the key to taking over the world by magical means, releasing the "Old Ones". (Contains several in-jokes to H.P. Lovecraft's horror fiction and also the hard-boiled detective genre.)

La Setta (The Sect / The Devils Daughter) (1991)
ed2k: dario.argento's.-.the.sect.(1990).cd1.avi dario.argento's.-.the.sect.(1990).cd2.avi
Movieinfo:La Setta @ IMDB
Additional Information:An Italian re-tread of Rosemary’s Baby with some Lovecraftian references thrown in for good measure.
Review: A spree of grisly murders is perpetrated in Frankfurt by a group of Satan worshippers. A school teacher almost runs over an old man with a box and takes him in. It's no accident that the old man has come into her life, and it quickly becomes apparent that he has plans for her, plans that involve a permanent future with the Satanic cult.

Evil Dead 3 - Army of Darkness (1993)
ed2k: army.of.darkness.disc1.ac3-guru.com.by.ummo.avi army.of.darkness.disc2.ac3-guru.com.by.ummo.avi
Release Thread:Army Of Darkness (MGM) @ HHAH
Movieinfo:Army of Darkness @ IMDB
Additional Information:Bruce Campbell is back as Ash in Sam Raimi’s third Evil Dead film. This film has all the manic pace of the first two films and, once again, the Necronomicon figures prominently.
Other rips: evil.dead.3.-.army.of.darkness.directors.cut.(1993).avi army.of.darkness.1992.mgm.version.dvdrip.xvid-sick.avi
Review: This is the sequel to "Evil Dead 2." Ash finds himself stranded in the 13th Century with his car, his shotgun, and his chainsaw. Soon he is discovered and thought to be a spy for a rival kingdom and is taken prisoner. After proving his merit in The Pit, he decides to help the kingdom retrieve the Necronomicon (which will also help him return to his own time), which they need to battle the supernatural forces at play in the land. Ash accidentally releases the Army of Darkness when retrieving the book, and a fight to the finish ensues.

In the Mouth of Madness (1995)
ed2k: in.the.mouth.of.madness.512-336.divx5.02.[-koxxxx-].avi
Release Thread:Demons, Hell, messin' with EVIL @ HHAH
Movieinfo:In the Mouth of Madness @ IMDB
Additional Information:John Trent (Sam Neill) is hired by Jackson Harglow (Charlton Heston) to locale missing horror novelist Sutter Cane (Jurgen Prochnow). Trent finds Cane in a New England town that isn’t on any map and finds that Cane intends to bring back the “Old Ones” with his ability to alter reality through his writings. Many consider this to be one of the better Lovecraftian films of recent years, but there are probably more references to King than there are to Lovecraft, and the mood of the film isn’t especially Lovecraftian.
Review: With the disappearance of hack horror writer Sutter Cane, all Hell is breaking loose...literally! Author Cane, it seems, has a knack for description that really brings his evil creepy-crawlies to life. Insurance investigator John Trent is sent to investigate Cane's mysterious vanishing act and ends up in the sleepy little East Coast town of Hobb's End. The fact that this town exists as a figment of Cane's twisted imagination is only the beginning of Trent's problems....

Hellboy (2004)
ed2k: hellboy.2004.dvdrip.xvid-dvp.cd1.avi hellboy.2004.dvdrip.xvid-dvp.cd2.avi
Subtitles: hellboy.subpack-qix.rar
Release Thread:High Qual Section @ HHAH
Movieinfo:Hellboy @ IMDB
Review: In the final days of World War II, the Nazis attempt to use black magic to aid their dying cause. The Allies raid the camp where the ceremony is taking place, but not before a demon - Hellboy - has already been conjured. Joining the Allied forces, Hellboy eventually grows to adulthood, serving the cause of good rather than evil.

Alien (Director's Cut) (1979)
ed2k: Alien.1979.CD1.DVDRip.XviD-FiNaLe.avi Alien.1979.CD2.DVDRip.XviD-FiNaLe.avi
Subtitles: finale-alien.subs-xvid.rar
Release Thread:Alien DC @ Fileheaven
Movieinfo:Alien @ IMDB
Additional Information:This film was the general public’s first exposure to H.R. Giger’s surreal creations. Giger has long claimed to be influenced by Lovecraft (although there’s little to support that) and some consider the creature in this film to be Lovecraftian in nature. Scripted by Dan O’Bannon, who later directed The Resurrected, based on Lovecraft’s The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.
Review: When commercial towing vehicle Nostromo, heading back to Earth, intercepts an SoS signal from a nearby planet, the crew are under obligation to investigate. After a bad landing on the planet, some crew members leave the ship to explore the area. At the same time as they discover a hive colony of some unknown creature, the ship's computer deciphers the message to be a warning, not a call for help. When one of the eggs is disturbed, the crew do not know the danger they are in until it is too late

Here are links to Cormans 'The Haunted Palace' which is nanmed after a poem of E.A. Poe but it is actually 'The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward' from Lovecraft. It's with Vincent Price.

The second one is the same as the Crisis-Rip with additional german-audio.

And here are links to two compilations from the 'Night Gallery' series which contain 2 stories from Lovecraft: 'Pickmans Model' and 'Cool Air'

Oh! You forgot about "The music of Erich Zann".

BTW: Does anyone have a rip of "The Curse"?

Dont mean to be picky but one of th box's is a bit wrong.
I think you have confused "The Haunting Place aka The Terror"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057569/
with "The Haunted Palace"
http://anonym.to/?http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057128/
The box contains the link, thread and additional info for The Haunted Palace
but the poster,IMDB link and reveiw for The Haunting Place aka The Terror.
Not sure if The Haunting Place is Lovecraft
Nice Collection :beerchug:
