This one looks more like an upsampled DVD than a new HDTV author, very hard to tell from screenshots... what do you think? (peopel who's completed that is)
There are two ways that they get HDTV content,
1) stretch and upsample a DVD = not the best way, no substantial quality gain.
2) Re-authored in hdtv.
There's a lot of blurriness. I realise that its getting on in years and wasn't a major budget film, but I have to wonder whether this is an upsampled DVD that was transmitted as HDTV.
Either way it will be the best rip out there probably.
Any tickers or logos on this one?

didn't spot any yet. From the 3 movies that I posted and T3 that I have this one is the worst quality, but it looks sharp to me.
too bad I still can't play it with any player
Salma is sexy though and HDTV is a blessing from above. Can't wait to have my 1280x720 Panasonic Beamer

XBMC can't playback 1080i, 1080p and stutters sometimes with 720p.
Unfortunately this one's slow as hell in downloading despite thousands of sources, so i can't tell you.
Underworld 1080i and Ghostbusters 1080i are a no go though, i have to play those back on my PC.

Oh well never mind - chopped it up in vdub.
Ditched the credits while I was at it....
UDF is more space effecient ? Never use it really...

So does that mean the only way to play these files at max quality (no downsampling) is through a pc connected correctly to a hi-def display??

Well technically i don't think you can play hi-def without upsampling/downsampling anywhere. The physical connectors are only present on modern graphics card, but the chipset for it upsamples the video to hdtv standards. The videocard is a bottleneck. I can't remember where i read this so whilst you plug it into your "HDTV" whatever, its not actually outputting at that because the graphics card isn't capable of it.
Of course it looks great, better than dvd on my pc which has a standard monitor with a resolution of 1600x1200 (larger than hdtv) connected via dvi. It plays no problem on my pc.
Xbox has compostie output, but not the processing power to playback resolutions this high.
btw. use virtualdubmod to mux out that crappy german audio, its the primary track

Well, i already dismissed the xbox as being a write off for HD playback... if you cant run Mortal Kombat 3 at full speed using Mame on it, theres no hope for HDTV.
What I was thinking about trying is using my pc in conjunction with my home theater projector which has a vga plug input on the back and is capable of 1080i. So if I bump up the res while the pc is on the projector, the picture should be exquisite!
I'm eager to try this as ive never had anything running hi-def on the projector yet... dvd only gives me 720 and i use cable tv with 50 channels (a lot for Australia) so i dont wanna spend cash on a HD box for the measly 3 or 4 free to air HD channs. And the cable tv here is crappy analog signal.

your projector is surely upsampling anyway? Yeah, don't worry about the pc quality, just hook your pc up to your projector via dvi and all will be well.

sounds like an ffdshow problem, do you mean it doesn't pixelate in vdub? Yes, means your direct show filters are messed up.
Update ffdshow, if it still does it, go into the preferences for it and turn off its handling of xvid.
