Just found out I had a 3 hour version of Salem's Lot in my news folder. :o
Never knew it existed, and that was me thinking I'm a SK fan (books).

Since it's badly cropped and has the teaser added in the end, I ordered the dvd (pal).

So anyone interested in a rip?

For those wanting the dvd: ntsc pal

Maybe you could try a 1/3rd DVDr or 1/2 DVDr? :D

It's about 3 hours so would be more like 1/2 ;)
That shouldn't be a problem.

Good question, can't tell for sure but think its a one long run.
Amazon is already preparing it for shipment (:wacky:) so should know it within a couple of days.

Almost finished ripping the movie.
Second disc gives me some problems since it has the wrong framerate (20) set for some reason.

I've chosen to make 2x1/6 dvd'r size rips of 746MB
Some specs:
vcodec: xvid
acodec: mp3 (it's mono, see no reason for ac3 at all.)
framerate: 25
resolution: 704x528 (4:3) considered doing 720x540 but that would mean stretching it.

Some screens of the first disc:

Must say looking good, it does have some damage artifacts, like white spikes etc. it's an oldie.
When I've watched it tonight I'll make a release topic for it.

You can try damage control with this filter if you want to combat noise:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=110078

Watch out though, misconfigured and you'll take away detail.

thx sounds interesting, will play around with it and see if it works.

Also need to edit the audio stream abit, remove scratches.
So could be it's not released until tomorrow, especially if I need to do another encode with above tip.

I've played around with this, and does seem to work. It doesn't remove everything though.
It also takes ages to encode with this, so hoping it will finish before end of time :googley:

And hope I didn't make an err in one of those settings

You have to configure the parameters, there's a guide to getting it work in the first post.
Essentially, you load your avisynth into virtual dub mod and use its script editor (under tools) to tweak the parameters until you get the results you want.

Encoding always takes ages, its to do with the amount of operations that that particular filter does. Blurs, then sharpeners.

You might want to keep the noise though, its better than loosing details. You'll have to compare results.

Gonna release this rip this weekend.
Decided to do them withouth the 'combat noise' filter since it couldn't remove all of it. And having some 'bad' white noise parts also add a bit to the nostalgic feel of it. :wacky:

Yeah yeah, lame excuse I know
