I was wondering what everyone's thoughts on the moderation of HDTV should be. This is HDTV captures, rather than rips from HD digital content like bluray and HD-DVD.
There's a few issues associated with it:
1) Logo'ing is common place
2) Dropped and junk frames are an issue where the capture device couldn't keep up with the capture.
3) Its not really a retail capture process, although you can achieve better than DVDrip quality, the capturing is still based on sampling a broadcast.
Now i was wondering, what's everyone's viewpoint on the placement of hdtv content?
I am happy leaving unwatermarked hdtv in higher quality, but when it comes to watermarked or junk frames, I think that maybe it needs to go in the lower quality section since the print is "soiled".
Views?

Separate sections : HDTV High Quality - Perfectly clean, not dropped frames
and LQ - Watermarked, dropped frames ETC

and you honestly think there's enough exclusive horror hdtv content for this (that isn't watermarked)?
What about TLF and other downsamples? Same principle?
ps. I'm not too fussed, i just don't know if there's volume, but then the DVDr section is all but dead.

Not yet, but I don't like HDTV in with the HQ or LQ sections, if it has to go anywhere within the existing framework then it should go in with the DVDr / mpeg section (and rename that accordingly)

but dvdr is mpeg2, and the splits based upon the mpeg variant.
I've looked around other sites and i'm not a fan of how its handled
ShareTheFiles handles it like this:
Code: | Highest Quality (DVD-R and 720p, 1080i, 1080p HDTV) DVDs almost as you buy them from the shop, with menus but perhaps extras such as deleted scenes removed (DVD-R). Also any HDTV releases which have 720p, 1080i or 1080p video. No watermarked DVD Screeners or TeleCines please. Anything TV related please post in the appropriate TV section as this is the movies section.
High Quality (2005-) (HDRip, DVDRip, DVDScr) High definition television rips (HDRip) as well as any movies copied straight off a DVD, whether retail (DVD Rip) or not (DVD Screener - no watermarks), and uses compression such as XviD, DivX, SVCD etc... from the year 2005 onwards.
High Quality (2000-2004) (HDRip, DVDRip, DVDScr) Any high quality movies that were made this century upto the year 2004. High Quality (19xx) (HDRip, DVDRip, DVDScr) Any high quality movies that were made last century. Lesser Quality (DVDScr, VHS, TC, TS, CAM) Cinema releases where a video camera is used for the video (usually in an empty theatre) and audio is picked up from the video camera (CAM) or directly from an audio jack (TeleSync) or the video and audio are copied straight from the cinema reels (TeleCine). Also any movies straight off a video tape (VHS Rip, Screener) or LaserDisc (LDCap) as well as any TV Rips, digital or not, and any non-retail DVDs (PDVD) with watermarks such as black and white scenes, counters etc... (DVD Screener).

Now the problem there is that they've mixed DVD-r with hdtv, which i don't understand and i don't think works, since DVDr is a very antequated MPEG2 based platform and HDTV rips are usually mpeg4. For ts streams though it kind of makes sense. Now their hdtv rips mingle with dvdrips and dvdscr that are clean, and their low quality is a mix of all kind of nasty preview crap.
Other sites handle it kind of like that.
Now i'm trying to think through how to seperate stuff and i come up with:
Highest Quality Section -> All HDTV content that isn't watermarked
Higher Quality Section -> All DVDrips
Lower Quality Section -> All non-DVD based content, tvrips, vhsrips, etc.
DVDr / MPEG2 -> DVDrs, SVCD, VCD
Unverified and Screeners -> Non-retail
But then you still get 'pollutents' with watermarked hdtv, now should that go in lower quality? Or maybe screeners since its non-retail?
There's also the issue of .ts streams, should that go in the mpeg2 section or in the highest quality section?

I know that HDTV isn't mpeg2 which is why it needs its own section.
As I don't have an HDTV set (yet?) it's irrelevant for me and I'm guessing alot of people on the forum and I'd rather it was kept out of the sections which are relevant to me.
It's purely for selfish reasons though, so you can safely ignore me

I'd say just one section for HDTV rips, watermarked or otherwise.
Just ordered a HD-TV today.

Well i guess until we sort out the ideal setup, that all hdtv content in a new section isn't a bad idea.
What would people say to the loss of the DVDr section btw?

No great loss IMHO.
Although I don't like "highest quality" - "HDTV" would be better

What's wrong with highest?
Well i set it up now, all hdtv sourced material goes in there... films only obviously. I've used a topic title convention that i think will ensure you know what your getting.
Feedback in here i guess.
I think i got all the hdtv, but if there's a topic, or a post in a topic i missed let me know.

its been there for a day, not touched admin panel so your probably caching somewhere if it dissapeared
access rights should be set up so its visible even if you log out, like every other section.

I'll make a docs appointment tomorrow then, geez I could understand it if I was drunk
I'm so used to clicking on the top one of the group (previously high), then it surprised me when I did that and it was High and not highest as I keep doing it. Could you move it down a bit....please, the whole feng-shui feels wrong somehow.
