Woohoo!

I finished the Video Nasties collection!

The first movie I downloaded was "The Werewolf and the Yeti" because I saw parts of it in The Night Of Bad Taste. Then I started to look at the other VN's and to my surprise, some of them already were in my collection (Cannibal Holocaust, Anthropophagous, the nazi camp movies and of course Evil Dead).

I started to download some other VN's randomly until I decided that I wanted to have them all  and I started at A, working my way down to Z. It took me 5 months and 15 days, but now I have them all. I'm very pleased, and hereby I wish to give my unending gratitude to ALL people who have helped with this collection. Not only the creators and contributors, but also the people who kept sharing the movies from this collection and of course people who ripped DVDs to replace dead links or to give a better version of the same movie. THANK YOU ALL!!

I'm glad you enjoyed the collection as I helped Iconoclast to complete it in his last few months here. Unfortunately, Iconoclast left this site 3 years ago and has not been seen since, so many of these rips have been bettered now. If you want better copies, look at the Art of the Nasty collection. Beware though as Bonnie_Parker's rip of Exposé has been verified recently as being cut, the crusty VCD rip in the original Nasties collection is uncut despite Iconoclast having listed it as cut. There was always some dispute as to whether the UK pre-cert which this was sourced from was cut or not, but I can 100% vouch for it being uncut.

Thanks for the tip. Lots of those links I already used or I searched for the title on the frontpage and found DVDrips or rips of longer versions. I'm not very good in finding out whether rips are cut or not, I usually go for the longest version.

For Exposé I used this link: J.K.Clarke.Exposé.1976.Xvid.EN.FRsubs.mp3.[B.P].avi, do you know whether that one is cut? Its length is 1:19:33, whereas the other version is a little longer (1:20:16).

That one's cut I'm afraid :( I thought it was uncut but it was recently verified as being cut. I think the rape scene is intact which would suggest it's uncut, but no.

Mmm, OK. I'll download the VCDrip then. After that I think I'm complete, because I have for most movies the longest version (of "Twitch of the Death Nerve" I have a version that runs 84 mins 19 secs).

About cut and uncut: sometimes movies on DVD are (much) shorter than on VHS. For example, my Pulp Fiction was around 8 minutes shorter on DVD. In this collection the movies vary sometimes only a few seconds. What do they cut?

And in the more mainstream films: howcome a movie sometimes ends up 5 to 10 minutes shorter on its DVD release?

Let me know which particular titles you wish to know cuts for, I can probably help. I intended building a thread on this just for the nasties but it was taking me a couple of hours per movie to get the cuts spot on and I didn't have that sort of time to spare.

I didn't verify Exposé myself, if you look at the thread (linked in the AOTN collection) it is explained in there. I can however tell you the differences between the uncut version and the BBFC rated version:

36:03 33 second shot of Linda's rape cut
69:38 13 second shot of Suzanne being killed in shower cut
70:04 6 second shot of Suzanne dying in bath cut

As for mainstream films, film runs at 24fps, PAL DVD at 25, that would go some, if not all, way to explaining the difference.

For the following titles I have versions which run longer than in the AOTN thread. Sometimes I have them off BT, sometimes they are other eMule rips than in the thread:

Blood Feast: 67:02 (I also have it on DVD, where it runs 66:58)
Blood Bath (Twitch of the Death Nerve): 84:19
Blood Rites (The Ghastly Ones): 71:50
Cannibal Ferox (the rip I have is called: Cannibal.Ferox.Uncut.DVDRip.XViD.ENG.avi): 92:59
Cannibal Holocaust: 91:49
Driller Killer: 94:18 (but this is a full DVD rip - 4,34 GB)
Last House on the Left: 84:26
Tenebre: 100:33
Delirium (the rip I have is called: Delirium.Uncut.1972.ITA.DivX.aXe): 101:43
Don't Go Near The Park (I got the Odin DVDrip): 83:28
The Evil Dead: 85:24
Revenge of the Boogeyman (I have the Redux rip): 83:03
Shogun Assassin: 83:54
Terror Eyes (I have the Night School DVDrip by Wolfcreek): 88:09
Toolbox Murders (I got the Odin DVDrip): 93:50
Witch Who Came From the Sea (I got the Muggz DVDrip): 87:45
Xtro (I got the English audio DVDrip): 86:18

The following titles in my collection are the same versions as in the AOTN thread, but for some reason they run longer than stated in that thread:

Don't Go In The Woods Alone: 78:21
Faces of Death: 105:55
Fight for your Life: 85:11
Flesh for Frankenstein: 95:20
House by the Cemetery: 82:27
House on the Edge of the Park: 87:54
Madhouse: 89:29
Night of the Bloody Apes: 83:51
Nightmares in a Damaged Brain (I have the "Gory version" VCDrip): 93:35
Snuff: 79:55
Zombie Flesh Eaters: 87:07
The Beyond: 87:32
Bogeyman: 81:50
Contamination: 95:21
Dead & Buried: 93:58
Death Trap/Eaten Alive: 90:48
Deep River Savages: 92:53
Don't Go In The House: 82:09
Don't Look In The Basement (I have the GORIE rip): 89:17
Funhouse: 95:13
Human Experiments: 81:59
Inferno: 106:14
Killer Nun: 86:54
Late Night Trains: 94:02
Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue: 92:52
Nightmare Maker: 93:07
Possession: 123:34
Prisoner of the Cannibal God: 102:58
Unhinged: 79:39
Visiting Hours: 105:03
Zombie Creeping Flesh: 100:37

The following titles are shorter than stated in the AOTN thread (although being the same version as in the thread):

Frozen Scream: 75:24
I Miss You, Hugs and Kisses: 83:19
Pranks: 81:25

To my surprise I saw that I overlooked two VN's: I just missed "Women behind bars" and I had a movie called "I Spit On Your Corpse I Piss On Your Grave" and confused that one with "I Spit On Your Grave". Downloading them now :D

All titles from "Abducted" down aren't official nasties, are they? It seems I only have a few of them:

Deadly Weapons: 75:29 (on my DFW DVD)
Double Agent 73: 72:19 (on my DFW DVD)
Mark of the Devil: 92:43
Vampyres: 87:08
Blood-Orgy of the She-devils: 78:55 (although being the same rip)
The Hills Have Eyes: 86:03
Plan 9 from Outer Space: 78:22
Reefer Madness: 68:17

What really surprises me is how many differences there are in running times. Is it maybe so that different mediaplayers give different outcomes? I checked the length of my files by scrolling over them and then XP tells me how long it is. If not, I opened it with MediaPlayer Classic. The DVDs I checked by putting them in my PC and opening them with PowerDVD.

Hehe, that's a lot of work for me ;) I'm going to bed now, I'll see what I can dig out for you regarding cuts but I can tell you the banned versions of the following were all cut, not necessarily gore scenes:

Blood Rites (The Ghastly Ones)
Cannibal Holocaust
Driller Killer
Last House on the Left
Tenebrae
The Evil Dead
Shogun Assassin (allegedly released cut and uncut, my pre-cert is cut)
Toolbox Murders
Faces of Death
Flesh For Frankenstein
House by the Cemetery
Nightmares in a Damaged Brain
The Beyond
Contamination
Don't Look in the Basement
Late Night Trains
Prisoner of the Cannibal God
Unhinged
Zombie Creeping Flesh

In addition, don't forget some of these rips are NTSC. Check the frames per second, if it's 25 then it's PAL, otherwise the running time will be different.

You are correct about everything from "Abducted" onwards, not official nasties.

Short answer for now, longer one will come tomorrow:

I checked the first group from my previous post, and most of them are 23 frames/sec, but some aren't:

Revenge of the Boogeyman (I have the Redux rip): 83:03 (25 fps)
Shogun Assassin: 83:54 (25 fps)
Terror Eyes (I have the Night School DVDrip by Wolfcreek): 88:09 (29 fps)
Xtro (I got the English audio DVDrip): 86:18 (25 fps)

About the Driller Killer DVD, I'm not sure. I'll check the other ones tomorrow.

I'm right if I say that most movies are longer because they only have 23 fps, right?

What are the other differences between NTSC and PAL, because I always read that people want to replace their NTSC rips with PAL. I'm sure it's something about quality ;)

24fps actually or 23.976

Basically, films are shot in 24 proggressive fps so a PAL DVD of 25fps is closer to the original FPS without a need to IVTC, which one must do to bring the NTSC DVD (which is 29) down to the original number, and doing that, you lose a bit on quality. But nothing serious.

FACT is, a lot of NTSC dvd's are superior to PAL discs, but sometimes vice versa.

Man I'm full of shit tonight
