UPLOADER'S NOTES
After Dario Argento's giallo masterpiece
Profondo Rosso (Deep Red, 1975) was released, the whole Italian thriller genre was having a hangover. The heyday of the early 70's was over and the violent cop films and crime stories were taking over. Most of the best known giallo directors were doing other kind of films and even Dario Argento took a break from gialli directing horror films before returning to his beloved thriller genre with Tenebre in 1982.
This left an opening for new directors to take a stab at genre. Antonio Bido was one of them. While other active giallo directors were influenced by popular genres in Italian cinema at the time, like
poliziotteschi, or going with even more on-screen violence and sleaze, Bido chose a more traditional approach drawing his inspiration mainly from Dario Argento's films. Bido's two gialli, this and
Bloodstained Shadow in 1978, are hardly original. Yet they are competent pieces of film-making and throughly enjoyable genre films.
Although most of the giallo fans consider Bloodstained Shadow to be Bido's best film, I like this one better. Of course there isn't (m)any original plot-devices to be found. Yet the film is entertaining in more ways than one: I especially love that bathtub death scene. Bido's style is constant throughout and some of his compositions rival the ones on early Argento films.

ABOUT THE RIP
I ripped this from X-Rated KultDVD release, which is the best DVD release of this movie available. The quality is definitely better than the American VCI release, but the transfer is still fairly dark and blurry. I decided to leave out the alternative American and Italian opening sequences, because they're just about a minute long clips showing Italian or American opening credits so they're simply not worth watching or ripping. Also the still photos were scrapped. All other extras are included.
Included:
* Main feature (1:31:06)
* German trailer (1:35)
* Two radio spots in MP3 format (0:58 & 0:26)
