The Burning - Holy crap that rocked! How often does a rip-off out-perform the original (Friday the 13th)? Cropsy was an absolutely awesome killer, and it wasn't quite as stupid as so many other camp slashers. And for once, I actually believe the kids are running around at a camp having fun (especially the part when they shoot that bully guy in the ass while he's standing on the raft. It has a wonderful "playful" feeling to it). And as everyone else says, The Raft Sequence is really fucking awesome!
In short, The Burning is now one of my favorite slashers of all time. What a great atmosphere it managed to build up.

The Legend of the Wolf Woman - great cheesy horror with that classic grindhouse feeling all over it. Lots of nudity, some nice gore and a fuzzy story make it complete.

The Yes Men - a documentary-like movie about guys who spoofed websites and got invites for conferences from it, the people inviting them thought they were from thw WTO. Very, very funny. Recommended!

Thinner - An alright film to kill some time with, but doesn't live up to King's book. The first half of the film is too slow, while the actual hunt for the gypsies is way too rushed. That, and they dared change the absolutely magnificent ending. Bastards.
But all in all, it was enjoyable.

Another non-horror movie:
Beerfest - this one will NOT get a recommendation. Running for almost two hours (way too long for this movie!) it tries to be a funny movie, but it fails. The story is one of the most unbelievable ones that I have heard EVER: a group of Americans trains for 1 year to beat the German world champions in beerdrinking contests. In spite of the fact that the Germans have trained for their entire life, the Americans win (who would have guessed that?!?). There's not much fun like I said (I laughed out loud exactly one time), but usually hese films make up for it with enough hot chicks and senseless nudity. While there are some (I think two) scenes with titties, it passes by in a few seconds, quickly returning to the boring story. Please, do me a favor and don't watch this.

Fuhrer Ex - marketed as "the German version of American History X" I sat down to see a movie about neonazis. Actually, the neonazis only come in at the end of the movie. They're there before, but they really start to play a role like 30 minutes before the end. The first half hour was the most interesting to me, as that part played in East-Berlin, with two young and dissatisfied guys wanting to cross the border to West-Germany. The middle part, when they're in prison, was pretty boring and full of cliches. Recommended if you're into German movies, or movies about German history. If you really liked American History X, I must say this: I liked the atmosphere of this movie much better, it felt more real and without false sentiments. The only plus for American History X is that it is about neonazis from the beginning.
Chainsaw Sally - slow-paced low budget flick with a not too bad looking girl with whether very big breasts or a successful push up bra, about Sally chainsawing people. No intentions, just blood. And a lot of mistakes you can make fun of.

Cabin Fever (2002) - Terrible movie. Terrible script. More holes than plot. Already too many words for such a piece of crap.

Snake Island - very boring movie about an "island" with lots and lots of snakes on it. Highlights are dancing snakes and snakes that talk in a dream. Keep away, it's a waste of time.
Colour of War - documentary about World War II entirely based on contemporary colour films. Nice change to the well known footage we've been fed over the years. Incomplete, but I can understand that: not everything was filmed in colour back then.
50 Worst Movies Ever Made - a good laugh and a new download list came out of this for me. Short trailers or fragments of really bad movies, reminded me a lot of the Night Of Bad Taste shows. Recommended!

I went to Day of the Dead at leeds film festival yesterday so here's my opinions on the movies they showed (short and to the point I hope):
· Angel - french short; A puppeteer because fascinated with a "fallen angel" at a travelling carnival. He decides to rescue her, and put her talents to use.
· WAZ - ultimately disappointing thriller, worked its budget well. Held up on its own for a portion of the film until its twists ran away with any potential impact of the movie. Never showed aspirations of providing anything new, and ultimate not something I'd go out of your way to see. Scores highly on imdb mind.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804552/
· Espectro - better, low budget horror that borrows heavily from asain horror archetypes, too heavily and ultimately does not quite deliver because of this. It is however a bit new in some areas of plot so I'll give it credit for that. Its still an enjoyable movie and is a lot more traditional in its scares, even if you've seen it all before. I'm pretty sure i heard nicole kidman was set to star in the remake... don't think a remake is needed.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0782839/
· Machine - brilliant silent short, visually appealing, technically well shot, great acting and funny when it wants to be. Big budget for a short, but money well spent!
· Devils chair - funny, witty, fast paced, modern and gorey... but missing that special something to make it a classic. An appearance from the brilliant Matt Berry (Sanchez marenghi fans!) and a strong lead sprouting out some snappy lines make it a great film marathon movie. The transition into the absurd is crafted and the jump to reality is sudden and effective. Gorey movie. I'd recommend this one, but it won't be to everyone's taste and if your not into modern brutality on screen, skip it.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0837791/
· exte - hair extensions. The whacky asains do it again. Its funny, and has that brilliant asain slapstick that I find appealing myself. Its a silly movie, and its way over the top but it easily kept my interest and we are now 4 films into a film festival.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0904049/
· Rabbit trouble - high budget and effective short. Moral, don't trust rabbits.
· The Orphanage - clearly and rightfully billed as the main event. The movie is brilliantly made, creepy and effective. Very similar to Pan's Labyrinth (and made by some of the same people at the same time) but much creepier and unnerving to the senses. Refreshing and really enjoyable. it might even be moving for those of you that don't model your life after chuck norris. The creepiness is made even more so by the poster child, so to speak. Highly recommended.

Hope there's info in there that will make people seek out any of those movies that interest you

The Barber - another boring movie. Serial killer haunts Alaskan village. Plus: Malcolm McDowell. Minus: many things.
El Buque Maldito - original way to serve the dead Templars up again. It's not very scary and all, but it's pretty entertaining to see how the people involved try to elude the Templars.

Final Call (aka. Cellular) - Good action movie with Kim Basinger and wrinkles. If you wan't to know how important your mobile phone is, watch this movie.
The Grudge (Remake) - Wasn't that bad. The scares are a bit similar to The Ring. But I'm still waiting for the ending. The "ending" was disappointing.

Die Blechtrommel - wow, that was a weird movie. Sometimes I couldn't help but think "The director of this film must be mad! Or on acid!", but after it was finished I had a feeling that felt like satisfaction. I won't watch it again soon, maybe when I get older.

I thought Breaking Glass was a brilliant film when i first saw it, i went to the flicks about 5 times in all.
I saw Hazel O'Conner at the bandstand in pompey a couple of years ago and she did all the music from the film. Hardly surprising as she didn't really do anything else.

Actually she was bloody good, she sounded exactly the same, voice hasn't changed a bit. I've got an old Fiesta magazine with her in (a nude photo shoot), was gonna ask her to sign it but didn't think she would!
Every week through the summer the council put on free concerts on the seafront, unfortunately this year a lot were cancelled due to the weather. A few of the bands i've seen are Slade, Sweet, Geno Washington, Roy Wood and some top tribute bands.
One year they had a '70s all day disco which had a top Abba tribute band and fireworks, 'twas a really good day out.
Hazel was there in '04 and 2000.

Yesterday I watched Battle Of The Volga, a war documentary shot by Soviet army cameramen. It's very refreshing to see WWII stuff from the Soviet angle, because most Eastern Front stuff is filmed by Germans. Downside is the propaganda blasting through every minute as this film was released in 1962, the time Krushchev was in power. An of course he gets loads of credits for the victory at Stalingrad.
