Both are released as 1080p, the first you will notice is the file size. the next you will notice is the hight at 812 pixels of the first. So one of these is clearly not 1080p..

The HD resolution standards are:
704×480=480p (DVD)
1280x720=720p (HDReady)
1920x1080=1080p (HD)

You would think the releasers of these hd movies, would follow the standards but they dont. So if you for example get a 1280x500 and it says it is a 720p but it aint, its what i would call a upscaled dvd quality wise.

Is there anyone else here that are into HD releases, what is your toughts about this?

The hight difference could be a result of cropping.

shitty players have problems scaling and correctly sizing cropped rips; proper cropping is still relevant for HD content. Get a better player.

Correctly ripped movies should not have the black borders. They are not needed.
