OK, I bought the WDTV Live, but I have this problem: in order to connect my PC to the WDTV, I have UTP cable, but the only UTP slot in my PC is needed for connection to the internet. How can I "add" a UTP slot? Any simple solutions?

Buy a cheap 4 or 8 ports switch. A 15-20 EUR one should do the job.

The switch is more or less a port-multiplier, right? The drawback is that I'd need more cable too. Isn't there anything like a splitter, where you put it in one port and on the other side it has two? Like I have with my TV cable?

I did a quick search, but couldn't find such a thing. Does it exist?

You could buy a 2nd NIC for your PC just for connecting your new WDTV. But then you'll get some other device that needs a network connection and you'll regret not having a proper wired or wireless router or switch.

You can buy switches on ebay for $1 :) CAT5 cables costs a couple of quid max.

I'll buy a switch and some cable and put it up. When I read back my question about the switch it indeed sounds like I don't know what it is  I actually meant that it functioned as such (it does, basically). Hehe, weird post.

I'll report back later.

Haha

What is the best setup?

A)
PC -> switch: WDTV and internet (switch is close to the PC and PC connects to its main port)

or

B)
Internet -> switch: PC and WDTV (switch is close to the router and router connects to its main port)

you'd need a router not a switch for B by the sounds. It sounds like you have a modem. I'd suggest getting a router, then you don't need your pc on for shit, can buy a nas in the future, etc.

I didn't think it was powerful enough, what about scene encoded 1080p @ 10mbps+ with dts, etc?

Dunno about DTS yet, but the GPU is capable of handling AVC (for example x264) @ L4.1, so even the video of an untouched bluray shouldn't be a problem.
