I'm planing on getting an internet radio. I wanted to get one last year but they were so expensive and all of them had bad reviews. It seems that there are some good models out there now. Does anybody have one and what is his/her experience? Any suggestions maybe?

So far this seems to be the best one for me: http://www.robertsradio.co.uk/Products/ ... /index.htm

What should it include?

1. Playback internet radio stations
2. FM radio would be nice
3. USB interface would be nice
4. Maybe DAB / DAB+ (but not necessarily)

Hmmm you know its never occurred to me with the advent of things like spotify and Google Music. I'm usually near a PC or a TV which can stream music these days, are you a heavy radio listener I take it?

It's actually a gift for my parents. They would like to listen to foreign stations while having breakfast or relaxing.

Ah, sounds like a good gift. Sorry for distracting then. I think most of the top range are pimped out, its largely down to aesthetics I would think. My parents can't hear and can't use technology too

I guess you are speaking to gently just like me. :)

Btw. I bought the Roberts one. Seems to be the best for this price. I hope that the wireless adapter in there is good.

I plugged it in today. I had to buy a UK->EU adapter (why are UK people doing everything differently?) though.

Setup went smooth.
WPA2 encryption works.
I found all radio stations I have stored in Rhythmbox.
Looks decent and high quality.
The radio found no DAB stations, but FM radio is working.

I still need to check the wlan connection and see if it's still working where I suppose the elders will put it.

it's older, it's grounded, safer and secure (ie. fits more securely and is harder to knock out), I believe the uk runs more power in the grid,
and the plug is easier to fit if you want to cut off the plug and fit another one. The fuse in there also protects you from damage in a power surge.

The EU two prongs don't have proper grounding and you can knock them out of the plug socket unless you use the massive kettle plugs that are more like the uk ones. Even a monkey like me can easily fit a UK plug with a knife and a screwdriver. That said europe is better than north america.

Next you'll be saying NTSC is better than PAL... bah!

ps. I'm in Spain so have the EU plugs which hurts my eletronics :(

They are surely harder to knock out. :)

Today I found the opportunity to test the wifi power. Good news! It is working where it will probably be put. The location is 2 rooms (2 walls) away on a different floor. There is also a steel banister in between. I had my doubts but it shows a signal strength of 1/3. Probably pretty low, but internet radio playback is working.

Router is a Linksys WRT54GL. Once suggested by elguaxo. I love this router. The best one I've ever had. I can recommend it to everyone.
