Problems like that are normally cause by FFDshow.

Try disabling it

C:\program files\windows media player\mplayer2.exe

load your file in question-->file>properties>FFDshow>properties, disable playback.

If it's xvid, replace the codec is the best thing to do :)

load up mpeg2.exe

load the avi file into the player

Goto file

go to properties

*go to advanced

Go to FFDshow

go to properties

Uncheck playback for media type in question. Reload the avi and see if it still displays problems, if it does, then you need to download the latest version of the codec.

Goto file

goto

C:\program files\windows media player\

and run:
mplayer2.exe

it's windows media player 6 and is installed on every windows machine regardless of your version

If you still can't find it, simply paste this into the Explorer address
C:\program files\windows media player\mplayer2.exe

and hit return

install xvid from the link. ffdshow has been playing xvid, not xvid codec.

ffdshow is out of date, therefore newer rips will not display correctly. You could also try updating ffdshow if you prefer, but i find it better to have the xvid codec actually on your machine anyways (incase you want to encode or something)
