I thought i saw a preview for this on tv but was under the impression it was just a made for tv movie, as is lots of "stephen king" movies......
come to think of it i can't think of many made for tv horror flicks that don't have his name slapped on, american wise..

Ok, for all those who don't know what Riget is...
Riget, or Kingdom, is a TV series made by Lars Von Trier, consisting of two series, 4 episodes each. It is one of the best horror (with elements of black humour) series ever made. It was often compared with Twin Peaks and indeed there is something which reminds me of the latter when I watch the Riget. It's somewhere between Twin Peaks and ER, lol. If you don't know it, I suggest you see it first. Here's the link to all episodes:
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules.php? ... tent2&id=3
Now, I'm not sure I know what you mean. Of course it's a TV production, made for TV, because it's a TV series which is a remake of a TV series. As I said, I don't expect much, honestly I think Riget's atmosphere is so unique (humour being an important part of it) that it can't be copied/adapted, so the project is bound to fail. The very thought they are going to spoil another great idea just pisses me off. But ok, I'm not going to make any more comments before I download and see at least a few eps of the King's series. Not to see IF I'm right, just to see THAT I'm right and HOW MUCH I"m right.

Of course I meant to post another link, it's fixed now. If you haven't seen it, then you definitely should. It's f***g awesome. Oh my god, some people are SO stupid! I've read the posts and I have to say I really like the answer by Lepus Rex, especially the ending. Amazing how many people are ignorant and to what extent, it's going to be the same as with Ringu. Many people are still convinced the idea is genuinely American, which is especially annoying when I'm talking to someone and after a few minutes it turns out that they meant the American remake and I meant the original version. Usually they are really surprised when I tell them it was a remake and shocked when I say it sucks big hairy donkey balls. How could anything be better than the American version? Japanese? Oh, they speak funny, it can't be better. With Riget it's the same and it's really starting to piss me off. What's really funny is that the first sentence of plot outline on IMDB is: Quote: | Plot Outline: Lars von Triers masterpiece renewed by the master of horrors, Stephen King. The story takes place in a hospital in Denmark, build upon an old graveyard. (more) |

or the equally silly: "Subtitles? What, I'm supposed to read a movie?"
damn, that line pisses me off. People refuse to see something that don't have english language.
Or if you ask someone if they've read [insert-title] and they answer they'll watch the movie if it ever gets filmed. Oh well, I guess it's kinda like getting a baby to enjoy abstract art.

Actually there aren't 8 but 11 episodes of the kingdom. i don't know where the difference is or what is missing in the episodes which are posted here. but the german version and as far as i know also the danish one of the kingdom or 'hospital der geister' as it is called in germany consists of two series with 5 and 6 episodes of about 50 minutes each. unfortunately they were never released on dvd but i found a forum where all of the episodes can be downloaded (in german). for the interested here's the link:

i already downloaded the first episode of king's kingdom, but i still have to watch it. i'm very interested, since i liked the original series a lot.
and as gorehound i prefer the us remake of the ring. although the originals are quite good (at least ringu and ringu 2) and a little bit scary, i find the remake has much more action, suspense and also plot in the same running time.
by the way, yes, i am a tool fan, and am glad that you recognized the image. where i come from almost no one knows this great band.

now i watched the first episode of king's remake. and i think it's not too bad. in some ways it's very similar (the introduction for example) in other ways it's quite different. maybe one should not compare it too much to von trier's original.
one thing left to say is that fortunately, lars von trier is the executive producer, which is surely a good sign. since the danish original ended very abruptly and doesn't seem to be finished at all (probably because one of the main actors died), i hope that von trier will take care to make a real ending for the remake.

There is a rip of the 5-episodes version, nothing is added, thee same material was just divided differently (cut into 5, not 4 episodes).

according to imdb riget I has a running time of 280min and riget II of 286min. and this total is about the length of the german and danish releases. but what i suspect to be missing (at least in the sharereactor release) are the short speeches lars von trier does at the end of every one of the 11 episodes. is that true?

Yes, there are some versions that don't have them. There is a 4 episode version which doesn't have Von Trier talking, and this version was also shown in Polish cinemas. The 5 episode version doesn't have this either. I have the version with Trier on DVD and both series have 4 episodes each.

Fangoria wrote: | March 29: KINGDOM HOSPITAL on critical list
Variety reports that ABC has prescribed a schedule change for the Stephen King-penned series KINGDOM HOSPITAL?an operation it doesn?t look likely to survive. After this week, the show will move from Wednesdays at 10 p.m. to Thursdays at 9 p.m. beginning April 1, which puts it up against two of TV?s highest-rated programs: CBS?s CSI and NBC?s THE APPRENTICE. After a strong start, KINGDOM has been consistently losing viewers; after this no-win switch, don?t be surprised if ABC pulls the plug on the series before it finishes its 15-episode story arc.

This is ridiculous. Why did they start making it in the first place?
