People don't seriously see ED as a zombie film do they??!!

I can (kind of) understand the confusion with ED2 although my take is that the beginning of the film is a recap/retelling of the 1st film then picking up where that left off for the remainder of the film (the morning onwards) with day 2 onward, hence different characters etc.

No - bot the Book of the Dead edition - just an AB widescreen disc - great transfer - good enough for me.

Even though I enjoyed all four films ( Saw I/II and the Firefly family films), I would have to say that Saw I and II are better. The've had such a huge impact on modern COMMERCIAL horror. Now a days, everything mainstream looks like Saw. Both Saw films are great, edgy thrillers, that do shock and disgust without showing.
The Rob Zombie films are good films aswell. Even though I'm a fan of his music, I have to admit that I underestimated Rob Zombie. I expected his directing to be horrible on both occacions, but the man surprised me twice. He proved to be a good director on House of 1000 Corpses and a versatile one on Devil's Rejects.

I agree for the Rob Zombie...

I don't know... I found both series good and funny...

But I like Zombie's movies more...

Both series have a good characters, and good story...

All in all, good film for poor new standards

Well...between those 2 franchises, I'll go for the RZ ones.

I would like to say that for me the best horror film ever made was (and will be) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the first and only classic one) It's crude, it's raw and campy.

Of coursem there are otheres too in the list, they might be there, but this one is fucking number 1. (BTW I hate the fucking remake)

Another great horror flick is for me Ju-On (not to be confused with fucking piece of shit called The Grudge with Sarah Michelle Gellar)

and the Asian horror movies are one of the best...

ED a zombie film!!!??? HAH!

What I liked about Saw 1, was that mainstream cinema at that point needed a kick, and it gave it. Ho1000C wasn't well received, or given much chance. Saw was dubbed a classic before it even hit cinemas, which is something I just can't agree with. Now we have Hostel (better than Saw 1) and Wolf Creek following it up. 1000 corpses felt more like TCM2, which I liked. It should replace TCM:TNG as TCM4! Devil's Rejects showed Zombie able to get a HUGE crew to do his bidding, with the studio is his pocket (I don't care what anyone says, they let him do whatever he wanted and we all know it). But as far a horror film goes, its not really a throwback to 70s film, its just set there. The direction, cinematography, score, and dialogue don't echo of any 70s horror films, unless its an 'inside' wink (know'what'i'mean'nudge-nudge). Its effective, and to US audiences it was an appalling shocker. But still I have seen much better films in the past 16 years, with less budget, less hype, less availiblity. Dellamorte Dellamore, Dust Devil, and Audition come to mind; true horror films from different angles, all of which include some homage to the golden era.

I gave 1000 corpses 4 because it was a breakthrough transgression for Rob Zombie, from musician (who IMO was going straight to crap since 1995), and actually paid homage to the golden era. Devil's Rejects was enjoyable and fun, but seemed to me like it didn't know whether it was a tribute horror film, or action film, or MTV music video. The soundtrack was great, but by the time Freebird played, I gave up caring, and it became annoying. He set out to make Resevoir Dogs set in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I think he succeeded, but it left something to be desired. Good production however, he had a massive crew of 'cut-n-paste' commercial art students to work with. I went to a college like that, lemme tell ya, they brainwash each student with their 'industry-standards'. And that takes me to the Saw films, which is what they all were, commercial butcherings of good thrillers. Se7en wa sthat too, but had the talent to back it up. I'd say Hostel over Saw anyday.

Some interesting points, certainly on the "we all know he could do anything he wanted". I got that impression from reading Fang-Ad-oria too, but these days.

One thing he did homage properly, is that the bulk of film (Devil's Rejects), usesquick cuts, not a whole lot of superimposed fade transistions. I could do without the slow-mo crap. Freebird's a long song, so he had to strecth it I guess !

I think it fits in just great, i dont care what that song means to any fucking american, over here in europe there are very few people who even know that song (only the older rockers i guess..), but i think it goes VERY well with movie:

also DR can be seen in two different ways, one sees it as a bunch of sickos who do nasty stuff, others ( like me) see this as a movie where the bad guys are the good ones, i like Otis for example...

In the end you just hope sooo much that they will escape and when they are shot and freebird kicks in that makes it kinda sentimental, the use of freebird is as watchi8ng after a real good movie the endcredits with just music, now you watch and listen to freebird, rally gives it that "feel"....

this song is the best choice you can imagine to end the movie.

(though that may be just my TSTE, but that the liking of movies was a matter of taste was the only thing in this thread someone agrees on, lol)




also all this compairing starts to irritate me, sure everyone in this tread is probably a bigger expert on what a better movie is, but fuck it, this was about saw vs dr and i'd say it again dr is way better.


The thing that spoiled saw for me was the ending, does anyone with an iq over over 80 really thinks that a surgeon can't tell the difference between a real head fleshwound and some rubber imitation on that corpses body? on a distance of 1 or 2 meter? come on...Dr is over the top, sure, but you know it and that's what makes it cool ( just like any tarantinomovie ;P)

in the US Freebird plays at least once day on any given Classic Rock Station. Its the most cliche 'leaving' song there is. I LOVE that song, and it fits with the soundtrack definitely. His other choices I thought were perfect, Midnight Rider by the Allman Bros (the opening track ICYDK) is the best choice ever. And Funk #49 by the Jmaes Gang was another good choice, as is that Little Feat song.

Saw just has no nostalgia, so that why I think Zombie's movies win over them. Plus, Saw2, though it had its enjoyably grotesque moments, lacked any form of subtlety or care for its characters (in fact I hated everyone in that). ANd to have the female lead take over?! Thats soooo TCM2!

They are the centre of attraction, but that's just fodder for the its no different from Natural Born Killers, From Dusk Till Dawn or countless others line.
