Let`s be honest, a director, lecturer (at the University of Li?ge) and professor at the INSAS and ISVK, who is also a tightrope walker, fly-fisher and member of the Zutists (a bunch of poets who know no rules), can only rouse our sympathy. In fact, the entire oeuvre of Olivier Smolders is one big travesty of cinematographic laziness. In his films (Novena, Adoration, Seuls, The amateur, Mort ? Vignole) and books (Cin?ma parlant, Ideas about film, In Praise of Pornography, Paul Noug?, ? ecole de la ruse, David Lynch`s Eraserhead, Exp?rience de la b?tise), Smolders always interlards his thoughts about the moving image with humour and a large amount of surrealism. He will introduce us to his first long feature, Nuit Noire.

Oscar, a conservator at the Natural Sciences Museum, passes the days exercising his passion for studying insects; if only there were still days. As long as people can remember, the sun only releases a few pathetic rays for fifteen seconds before noon. The rest of the time, the world is plunged into a night without end, a permanent eclipse. Coming home after work, Oscar finds an African woman in his bed. Suffering from a mysterious and incurable disease, she seems to have come to his place to die. Trapped between desire and repulsion, Oscar gradually abandons his life to terrifying phantoms.
Interview with Smolders

Don`t know much about this, downloaded it from the pirate bay a while ago, the original uploader commented on the not so good quality. But the movie is fantastic. Final. Insects, strange fantasies / dreams /psychoanalytic sessions (with some guy staring into our heros ear with some strange device..)? Death, birth, a long night. Everything. Final.
Yes, the big black bars are really there but the rip is otherwise of good quality.
Also, this may fit better in Non-Horror. I'm not sure.
I've yet to see it and I have the feeling it will be a disappointment. But hell it looks so fine
Note Well: the IMDb entry for this one is completely wrong :o

Not sure what that guy said..something about joking around with some horroble ale but the movie looks pretty good.Holding a monkey saying it brings good luck in love is as about as final as you could get.Another great oddity from you trep..you keep me well entertained by your releases. :beerchug:

Hm... what am I doing in low quality now? ;)
There's the hand of Spud behind it, and his obsession against black bars

Ok, there are also some few and quick-passing pixellated frames, so I guess it can stay here. Well, as if I have a choice :P

Actually the guy is saying (in the previous subtitle not shown here) you should caress it, and I guess the monkey should be dead... just in case you were heading for the zoo, at least do it right ;)
