I thoroughly enjoyed this, a VAST improvement over the tedious original.

I don't understand why hollywood doesn't do this more often, remake crap films, that way you're almost bound to make a better film (with the exception of The Amityville Horror)

I don't think it was a crap film. Back in 1977 you didn't have the massive tons of stuff to choose from like you do today. And sometimes when I'm feeling spoiled from todays multi-billion dollar special effects movies, I go back to the 70's for a refresher of what it was like not to have blue screens and years to make films. The Hills Have Eyes, Last House on the Left, I Spit on Your Grave & even Straw Dogs are some of those that I always go back to. This re-make is excellent, and I hope there are more to come. But for this to become available, the original (no matter how bad anyone hates, or dislikes it) had to be made. Bip. :eatthis:

I DO think its a crap film and it has nothing to do with budgets or special effects, the other films you mentioned are good and were made ~the same sort of time and aren't tedious.

Craven isn't a great director and his THHE suffers from a lack of tension and long periods of tedium, character development is clumsy and the violence (which IMHO this movie needs in order to bring out the horror that the family faces) was fairly tame even by 1977 horror movie standards.

I might need to rewatch the original as it's been a while, but thoses were my memories of it.
