Basically it's said that Shakespeare used real spells in the text, resulting in witches cursing the play.

Actors believe to say "Macbeth" in a theatre brings back luck or worse to the production & the players, so they refer to it as "The Scottish Play".

I believe there's a get-out clause for actors who slip up involving turning around, going out of the room and spitting or something equally silly. :lol:
