Since about 9am this morning there appears to be something going on with a lot of the big ed2k servers.

This has resulted in many of the smaller ones becoming full and unstable.

I said that Big Bang received a warning and Donkeyserver's have closed before receiving it.

Means will become more and more difficult to search things and to get lot's of sources. It won't affect popular files, but for rare stuff, good luck! I'm living it right now, got 2 or 3 sources for very rare things, get nothing yet.

Let's hope a server will open in Russia or in China were laws are... different.

been connected to only kad all day long (as a test) & it works just as well as the servers

After a full day of being connected ONLY to kad i seem to be getting the same number of sources and the same speed as before.

It`s just taking A WHILE longer to get all the sources together for RARER files, my speed hasnt been affected at all AFAIK.

For MOST of the rarer files i am noticing that Source Exchange is supplying the sources very well so as long as you can get on a server once in a while then you shouldnt notice any REAL issues, things might just take a bit longer than usual until the network becomes more stable.

This situation might "encourage" developers who arent currently using Kad in thier mods to start supporting it and provide a reason for those who are supporting it to improve/streamline it.

POPULAR files dont seem to be affected at all by virtue of having so many sources then everyone can "see" each other and therefore sources are passed off to each client equally as well.

I`ve seen a lot of panic (not here) about the "death of emule" but it`s nothing more than a bump in the road, advice is the same as it ever was "stay online as long as possible, queue a number of files, use verified links and BE PATIENT."

Thing are going to carry on and PROBABLY get better and somebody will set up new servers....

....LOOKING AT YOU "PIRATE BAY" as you seem to have a record of saying "get fucked" to the authorities and I wouldn`t count out firstload.de (donkeyservers) starting up them again in a different country as they havent lost any boxes or been served with any C&D orders. So it`s an "avoid trouble" issue rather than a "we`re broke or in jail" one.

I agree, even if my very rare files still can't find sources at all. I like the color red, but on emule, it's not my favourite.

So the WHILE longer for the RARER files may be an ETERNITY.

I had a file i started the day before the shit hit the fan (while donkeyservers were still online & indexing files)

It had 10 sources before and it has 10 sources now so in Le Frog`s case i suspect some of his "missing sources" are using mods without kad or are not currently online.

If everyone starts using kad then things will be ok and if we DO get a new high capacity server then things will also be fine as I can`t see the folk with RARE files leaving the network over this.

WE MIGHT lose some people from the higher sourced files as they listen to the scare stories but anyone who is here because of the ed2k networks infinte biodiversity will remain here.... ...i know i will.

Hey tovaridge, 10 sources is not a very rare file...

I'm talking about 2 to 5 sources with only one full, giving one chunk per week...

10 sources, it's a superhighway.

Anyway, I agree with you, no panic and the lost won't hurt as the ones who will leave don't share what's impossible to get. I hope... (red, red, red...)

plus the file i mention has 10 SOURCES not 10 FULL SOURCES i believe it has only 2 FULL SOURCES and i have no idea on what basis those sources give out chunks as i`ve not been d/l it long enough.

..other than that all i can say is yeah you have the right idea PATIENCE and hopefully that VERY RARE file wont be lost on the network if it is then it sucks but having a big bad server wont help much on how often a chunk gets given out.

what might be an idea is if anyone is the FULL SOURCE for a mega rare file then they might pimp it out to their friends and get them to help sharing it or even upload it to the newsgroups (and post an nzb) to try and get more sources out there.

EG. I was the first person to bring Scooby Doo, Where Are You Season 2 to emule so i went round to a few friends with the rips on my USB key and said "here stick these in your shared file for a while" and instantly or thereabouts my postion as the ONLY full source wasnt as secure anymore and my queue wasn`t hammered with people i couldn`t give chunks to.

and thinking about it tvunderground.ru might be a good place to keep an eye on, firstload.de might be well advised to speak to them as from what i`m hearing china are tightening up on thier "interlectual property" laws.
