IMDB

Summary:
When commercial towing vehicle Nostromo, heading back to Earth, intercepts an SoS signal from a nearby planet, the crew are under obligation to investigate. After a bad landing on the planet, some crew members leave the ship to explore the area. At the same time as they discover a hive colony of some unknown creature, the ship's computer deciphers the message to be a warning, not a call for help. When one of the eggs is disturbed, the crew do not know the danger they are in until it is too late.

Release notes:
Already released:
Aliens SE (2/3 DVD)

Coming up:
Alien 3 SE (1/2 DVD)
Alien 4 DC (1/3 DVD)

In case you're wondering about the framerate: It was necessary for audio sync. Ripping those Quadrilogy versions is pretty much a pain in the ass because they all use seamless branching which screws up sync. Wish me luck for part 3 and enjoy!

Please help share and feel free to post it on other sites/forums and spread it to other networks if you want. Please don't remove or replace the tags. Add if you must, but keep the filenames as they are.

Did you experiment with interleave?

Basically there's no way to decrypt the DVD and get matching audio/video streams.

What I did was I adjusted the framerate on the video the synch it. :)

Is that really possible? Is it a new way of protecting DVDs? What did you use to rip the DVD? I am interested in case it happens to me. I thought you could just try a while with audio interleave in some hostile cases...

It's not copy protection. The thing is the DVDs have both versions on them and the player uses the SB flags to insert/leave out certain sequences depending on the version you select.

DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4, in "IFO mode" is supposed to demux SB DVDs properly but with Alien it didn't work.

Bottom line: I tried every way I know to demux but didn't get matching audio/video streams and had to use the workaround. According to Doom9 SB on Alien Quadrilogy is especially nasty.

Ahh, now I understand, didn't know about the merged versions of the cuts. Thanks for enlightening me :-)

I got the Dutch quadrilogy. It contains subs in Dutch, French, Englsih and Greek.

So together we can make a giant subpack!

Where's a guide for ripping subs?

I don't know where, but it's pretty much straight forward:

With the same VOBs and IFO archives you got from the DVD you extract those:

Open VStrip, select Open IFO, select the IFO of the movie (i.e. VTS01_00.ifo), then choose a saving place for the subs.

Press Next and voila!

Wherever you choose to save the subs, you'll find 2 files:

movie.SUB
&
movie.idx

RAR (in best compression mode) the .SUB file and then put both files (the .RAR and the .idx) inside another RAR.

This resulting rar is the one you'll share ;)

It's very important to RAR the SUB file, since it is extremelly compressible and will bring the size down a lot! :D

Enjoy! :D

You should probably check sync first since I'm using a non-standard bitrate. :)

Bitrate? Don't you mean framerate? What's the sense in compressing the file twice?

Er, yeah, framerate of course. I was checking comp/possible framerate on my next rip when I wrote that. So much for multitasking.

i don't know why you should compress twice the file, but it just works like a charm!

they do it all the time, check those subs at any official release from teh scene, and most subs are compressed twice: the sub inside a compressed rar and the idx inside an uncompressed rar along with the compressed sub rar.
