No site, just a plea for donations as the frontpage.

guess they hit trouble then. Bandwidth is higher for torrent sites, that is if they insist on hosting the torrents on their own bandwidth :(

Good job I can survive on tap water and boot polish. :wacky:

CrazyMazey's forum was different than the others. We've lots of dedicated ppl there who gives fuck about community. Sure there're lots of leechers too but they exist everywhere including ed2k network. We were trying to prevent 'when downloading is done, i unshare straight away' kind of ppl, that's why we were setting up a tracker with share ratio. Even in this condition last three STR releases I send to CrazyMazey are still alive with over 6 seeders. Conclusion, CM and its community was different. I'm sure it'll be back soon.

To be fair it must be said that BT is much harder for community. No visible nicks. I am always happy when I see a HHAH nick in my upload list. With BT it is only changing IPs. What community feeling do you expect with this? Then BT is usually fast, but this is a problem, too. With 1024/256 dl/ul I am automatically a leecher. I simply cannot assure an 1:1 ratio or even better. I have a 250GB hd, no problem with the normal edonkey dl speed, but with BT I simply have to burn stuff away regularly. So point 5 is not always voluntary. This is a much smaller problem with edonkey. Edonkey 'seeds' does not die that fast. And even if I have unshared, when I see a chunk is missing I can always reshare. I am not dependent on a tracker.

Yes wargand, I agree with you. BT is very hard for community, but some of them can success creating one. As I said in my previous message, tracker we were working on was showing ppl in your upload list with their forum names. If someone wanted to get a file from me, he had to be a member of CM first. I could see who's sharing and who's not and if there's a leecher I didn't know, I could remove him from my upload list.

By the way leecher is a very general term. As you said sometimes it's not voluntary thing to do. But when you spend some time on a board, you figure out who care about movies and who care about community. I have no problem with people I know, people who are always sharing what they have, so I don't care when they leech something off me.

Of course we all now the advantages and disadvantages of both networkds. I, for myself, am using BT network just to seed files. I love ed2k more than BT. But what is happening is not about which one is better, it's about a good community dying.

Just my two nickels ;) If CM dies, then I'll invite some cool guys to here :outsider:

I agree with the BT being a tougher community, but I got to throw another dice onto the table, that being the often overlooked role of the leech in regards to ratio.

That being, without leechers, the idea of ratio falls flat on its ass. I mean you need people to be there to leech to enable a user to get a high upload ratio. If everyone puts back as much as they put in, they have acheived the phsyically impossible. There has to be some users that have a worse ratio (unless of course, there are designated pass the flame releases and even then they are near impossible to maintain). The bt system naturally lends itself to a seed and leech relationship. To acheive a decent ratio, you must have lots of leechers to build up a strong upload. Couple this with the fact that most countries have a highly capped upload, and the 'blaming' of leeches destroying a system that is inheritantly geered towards such a system is blatantly unjust. That's why sites like http://www.torrentbits.org/ seem totally stupid, you have such an utter waste of bandwidth being poured into files that simply don't need the b/w and on the other extreme, you have little to no bandwidth spent on other files that really need. People are wasting their bandwidth uploading files that simply don't necessarily need the upload bandwidth for days, just to build up their ratio.

That said, it does seem fair that the strongest releasers in a community are treated as the strongest releases. Its a good thing people are around with insanely high upload :)

ps. I think it totally sucks that its gone down :( Hope it recovers.. I thought it was doing quite well with all the advertising and whatever it had on the site :(

Well I have a 1024/128 connection and, when enforced, it's easy to maintain at least a 1:1 ratio. I think all sites should adopt this rule (or something similar to torrentbits where a timed queue is in place) and if not followed invokes an immediate ban. A good example is empornium - the rules on leeching there are enforced rigidly with bans aplenty for non-conformists.

I admit it's tempting to stop seeding soon after a file has completed, but now I try to leave a file until the ratio has at least gone over 1.0.

sorry but its a near impossibilty with a DVDr and 128 up. If someone can stomach uploading for weeks without using edonkey and uploading nothing but that one DVDr well... I don't believe anyone would.

A DVDr is an extreme example of course - but the answer is simple limit what you download to ensure you can return the favour by maintaining a fair ratio with what you upload. People are greedy and always want more, more, more. In fact the ed2k community isn't that much different - everyone can remove a file from their shared folder as soon as it's downloaded. But with ed2k there is much more of a community spirit which is sadly lacking with BT it appears and if enforcement is the only answer then so be it.

I simpy cannot bring myself to stop an upload if I am the only seed left, no matter how much I've downloaded or how slowly it uploads, or even how old the file is.

I see it boiling to this basic fact if your dl/ul ratio is 10:1 then you download that file and wait 10 times as long to return that download back to others. If it's 3:1 then etc. etc.

Maybe I'm seeing things a litle to naively here but it makes sense to my fuddled brain :wacky:

I hope they are back before to long. Not going to trash them since basically they provide the BT equivalent to here as far as mainly horror releases. The people there have been freindly to me and they provide alot of good links that eventually make there way to mule.If they need cash donations then they need money...I can understand that..although if I donated money to any site it would be here.Boot polish makes your tongue turn black.

Nice points

The main problem with enforcing a 1:1 ratio on BT sites is that it just doesn't work when the majorty of people have ADSL-like connection (1042/256 or 512/128 etc...).
Downloads will complete very rapidly (and even quicker than that since everybody is trying to play nice and share), but then it'll take people forever to finish uploading the files (and prevent them to start downloading new files). Kind of defeats the whole point of downloading quickly doesn't it ?

If download speeds were a bit slower, people with asynchronous lines would have nicer share ratio by the time they have completed their download.
1:1 share ratio would work nicely if everybody had 1:1 lines...

Another thing is critical mass, look at suprnova, there are hordes of leechers there, yet everybody get the files quickly and torrents last for quite a bit, because there are enough people visiting and downloading. Smaller community site like CM don't have that kind of crowd (not that they would want to), so they have to be strict and work their asses off to bring the visitors to share rather than just leech. Ed2k sites does not have that problem since the network is rather large and sharing is never limited to just one site/commuity.

Then there's the bandwidth problem... A BT tracker requires *a lot* of bandwith and when (unlike nova) you have to pay for it, it becomes a real pain. That's trouble, and the time you spend fixing it or slapping/banning users that don't share is time you haven't spend sharing flicks or building the community.

I mean, mazey, ferox and the crew did a really, really great job sharing rare flicks and lost gems, but what kind of community can the admins hope to build when they have to turn into SS Share-or-die Camp guards ? Constantly (even if it is rightfull) asking the users for donation and having to play hide and seek with leechers...

They should *seriously* consider turning CM into an ed2k site... the admins would save a lot of time, that would drive headaches, leechers and donation problems away, and i don't think it would be less satisfying in terms of sharing.

Don't they all wanna be happy like spud ? :wacky:

Yeah, but there already is a horror site for edk...that would be here..and from the feeling I get from the members there they prefer using the BT and shrug off the edk network saying it is slow.I ain't worried on competition..I am just thinking it would be fruitless, there is already a few other sites out there commited to horror..none of them match up to here though...this is THE place to get your gore fix as far as edk.

yep, this is *the* place... it's dark and warm here

i don't think it would be fruitless... more sharing on the network is always welcome.

But you're right they very likley won't switch to something else than bt, so it's kind of pointless to discuss it

CrazeyMazey has some great releases, shame they don't use ed2k. BT dries up realquick, and since most people use ed2k, they rarely have both running at the same time.

That being said, the apostraphe (sp, I know)is in the wrong place. It should be shouldn't. Not should'nt.

Good points everyone. I too would not like to see CM's go for good, but with the recent SR shenanigans with regard to donations I think people's sense of community is stretched to the limit as far as handing over their money is concerned.

On a personal note, if I download a torrent I always leave it open until I've upped at least 1.5 * download, just for my own conscience. :)
