IMDB

The movie needs no explanation but this rip needs(?). This is the new MGM version from the Region 3 dvd. As Anchor Bay owns the rights in the USA, MGM owns the rights to the film in most foreign territories. MGM restored the director's cut using original film elements, unlike Anchor Bay which used video footage for some of the scenes. The picture in this new version is superb throughout. The Anchor Bay version got murky and VHS-like at times. All the scenes from the Anchor Bay Director's Cut disc are included here. Not only that, but it contains a short scene of Evil Ash ripping off Sheila's clothing, which was cut from the Anchor Bay version. So this is the most complete version available.

Tech. Stuff:
RELEASE FORMAT : NTSC XviD 2-pass ~854kb/s
ASPECT RATIO : 1.85:1
SOUND : 133kb/s VBR Mp3

ed2k: Army.Of.Darkness.1992.MGM.Version.DVDRip.XviD-SiCK.avi  [696.86 Mb] [Stats]
ed2k: Army.Of.Darkness.1992.MGM.Version.DVDRip.XviD-SiCK.idx  [208.1 Kb] [Stats]
ed2k: Army.Of.Darkness.1992.MGM.Version.DVDRip.XviD-SiCK.rar  [2.88 Mb] [Stats]

Enjoy this best version of Army Of Darkness!

All thanks go to Flat|Erik and the releaser :)

Yup:
"1.85:1 anamorphic NTSC"

You can find out about all the different version here:
http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/comparison ... p?fid=1398

Here's details on this version:

Quote:
R3 - (Hong Kong) - MGM
Audio commentary with director Sam Raimi, actor Bruce Campbell and co-writer Ivan Raimi
Deleted scenes
Alternate ending
Production stills
Chinese, English, Indonesian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Thai Subtitles
1.85:1 anamorphic NTSC
English Dolby Digital 5.1
Amaray Case
Note - This is a combination of the theatrical, director's and European cuts of the film, at a runtime of 96:12 mins.
This edition compiled from ORIGINAL source prints and not from a VHS source, as Anchor Bay releases are.
Thanks to ThePrimitive for these specs.

OVERALL : R3 - The R3 Hong Kong release has a vastly superior picture quality. Color and shadow detail are far superior to the Anchor Bay versions. The MGM version also includes possibly the best 5.1 mix created for this film as well.

GENERAL NOTES:
The AB version looks cropped on all four sides in some scenes and even zoomed in others.

So it seems there's much better video and sound quality, but unfortunately it's slightly cropped :( As the sound/video is one of the main pluses, i would have thought a AC3 2cd release would have been done (as it's a well spread and popular film).

Quote:
All Anchor Bay?s prints are MISSING a short 2 second shot: After Sheila is first captured and presented to Evil Ash, he rips Sheila's dress down to her waist. Explaining the next shot of looking her up and down. The following shot of the nude slave girls is also much clearer. The R3 HAS this shot (perviously shown only on the Japanese "Captain Supermarket" Laserdisc). Spud: Hooray, i have it on VHS :)

Cuts
R1 - No cuts: Theatrical Cut.
R1 - No cuts: Includes both Theatrical Cut and Director's Cut.
R1 - No cuts: Director's Cut.
R1 - No cuts: Includes both Theatrical Cut and Director's Cut.
R1 - No cuts: Theatrical Cut.
R2 - No cuts: Theatrical Cut.
R2 - No cuts: Director's Cut.
R2 - No cuts: Includes both Theatrical Cut and Director's Cut.
R3 - No cuts: full 96:12 min cut of the film, the longest cut of all the releases. And includes the 2 second scene of Evil Ash stripping Sheila which is not on the Director's Cut.

finally completed this just now and was a little sad to find that both endings weren't included. Only the original one, and although that might be the best one, I'd still like to have both. =(

Ummmm.... Is this thing still on...?

Yes, I know that the thread's been dead as a doornail for over a year, but I was just wandering if any good soul could reshare for some time the .idx file. Yes, this small insignificant file that I can't download since 12th Dec. There seems to be only one source that keeps popping up once every week and then disappear right away :outsider:

The movie itself went rather fast and everything's fine, but I'd like to finally burn it and free the space

Here's hoping someone still has that blasted little thing and is willing to help :(

Yes, I did (61 hits in all, 5 of them English, none for the MGM version)...

but being the twisted person that I am, I'd still like my subs in Vobsub... so... anybody?

My faith in humanity is restored!

I don't know how exactly but yesterday my brave eMule managed to somehow complete the annoying leftover .idx. If it's thanks to anybody who read this - BIG THANKS, and if not, well, thanks anyway

Anyway, if anybody else needs that file, pls let me know, since the whole compilation gets burnt rather soon. (I only wish I could get a decent DVD of this version instead of a lousy VHS I have)

Many thanks, DJBenz! I'd gladly go for the R3 release, specifically since it's supposed to be the best quality (the rip certainly looks very good). I do not understand, however, why the runtime for both is given as 93 minutes, while the one quoted at the beginning of the thread is 96 - and the rip is also 96.... It is supposed to be the same DVD, right?

(besides I'm not sure if it would be shipped for free to my poor, backwater country  )

Could somebody please re-share this one.
And does anyone have the theatrical ending (short clip)?
Even though it's cheesy I like it better than the original.

Yep, after clicking reveals some 20+ sources, at least 6-7 of which complete, it was one of the well spread rips.

As for the endings, here's the Captain Supermarket one, if that's the one you mean:
ed2k: The.Army.Of.Darkness.-.Alternative.Happy.End.avi  [23.94 Mb] [Stats]

btw by now I also have the DVDs Ha ha ha hahahaha! :bliss:

And they're worth it
