i store them in rows. in ABC order. when i burn new CD - i just put it in abc order. so i can find CD in 10 sec. (they all signed at the side) |
I used to do that, until I got past 2000 cds. The covers just take up too much space! Mucn neater to have them in folders. And they're not damaged. In fact I've never damaged ONE of my cds. I still got some cds from 94-95.. That was back when they came in gold and couldn't take anything before getting unreadable. Still works (although I never use them) |
that's why we need DVD-R
to free up some space

extremme does take a little getting used to, if you previously catalogued with some of the more basic progs, like moviebox or movielibrary. extremme kind of reminds me of using 3d studio max after only using the paint prog that came with windows. it takes some getting used too.
extremme can output to origens i think. i never used it.
i think cracks for the new versions come out not long after the officially releases, S.R. has them posted usually the next day.
ive modded my e.m.m. almost to the point its unrecognizable, put in some different access tables, some javascript, skins, applets, better graphics, buncha crap for horror, adding scp/ftp/encrypted file transfers, basic chat functions, and a buch of crap because i have entirely too much free time.

-edit- just replace the 'index.htm' with 'monkeyinfo.zip' and you get the html page with the linked graphics+folder.---------
is an older output page. yahoo deleted all my stuff, but this one is up.
are the genre graphics showing? or ANY graphics?
this one doesnt have the 'sort by subgenres' in it, or any of the extras, its just my replacement for *.nfo files. all the movie info besides sub genres are automated, and the encoding info is done thru a read file.

Bloody hell, I've got the same amount of movies as you and they are stored in 5 of those 264 disk wallets they take up a damn sight less room !!
Nice online list though
Paul, did you take a look, what did you decide (if anything)?

Downloaded and installed movie collectorz and extreme movie manager.
Both are pretty cool. It's good for me becuase I've never used any kind of catalogueing tool so am new to them all.
Leaning towards EMM becuase i like it. Will decide this week and start-a-catalogueing!!!
Might find some films unreleased on HHAH and post them!
Cheers for all your help guys will keep you posted on how it goes!
The major task is going through the spindles/wallets of cd's a and alfabetasising them
P.S I can't spell a particular word in this post

Is there really any point alphabetasising the movies?
All it takes is for you to download a couple of "a","b" and "c" films and you've got to do the lot again (or shift up everything else). Number and index are your friends

It's not too bad with stacks, mine are in wallets if I download an "a" film I would have to shift ~1500 cd's "up" to accomodate it

But as you say any added to it will be takd on the end!
No plans this weekend so maybe I sihould make an effort, wonder of many hours it will take to do it??
I reckon 20+

About the comment of ragging on XMM cos it's pay software, this is the internet. Look on SRs mainpage for example
If you are a primate and simply want to list all your movies, your best off using notepad. If you want a deafult list to sort and import, XMM or another one recommended in this thread is for you.
If you have a DVD-r drive and what to really catalogue, output and create reports, XMM is the only cataloguer I've used that comes anywhere near the mark. I don't burn to CDS anymore, and therefore i need a way of cataloguing and referencing the media, for this I use DVDID field and then list films by the media it is on. I also set up the program to display by genre or title in a click, so the program is perfectly suited to my needs. The output is also great and there are loads of useful reports if that's ur kind of thing.
There are two problems for me though, with emule running the internet import goes too slow (but this is the same with every import program). It's froze once or twice.
As for the physical storage of films, I used to put films in DVD cases and then on shelves when I had a cd burner, but since I discovered fire (DVD-r writer) I have put all the cds in a hard case (like djs use to store cds) and then in felt 240 disc wallets I put the DVD-rs. I print out my list with disc references, title, genre and year and put it in a folder so I have a hard copy to refer to if i take my films to a mates house or a party, or something.

Well spuds tipped the balance!
Decided to go for XMM, becuase I kinda like it and with the dvdr thing he mentions above it's ideal for me
Only had a dvdr a week or so and already got 20+ dvdr's with movies on.
And they need catalogueing!
So sometime soon, I'll attempt my task of adding them all to XXM.
Cheers guys (AGAIN!)

no, it's just a little bit faster but slow as hell with emule running and going full flog. Like I said, it's the case for all of them so it's just something I thought was worth mentioning
BTW, the online orion cataloguer or whatever it is that was mentioned, XMM can output to that too although unfortunately that site although allowing for a 'free' listing, has many of it's features crippled, including only allowing one import of a list

nice spud, I hadn't even noticed that you could sort by dvdid. Luckyli for me I'd imprinted the index into the Box id which is also sortable. That was about the only thing I was missing! =)
now.. about that option to sort by genre with only a click...? I use that 'find' menu. is there an easier way?

Sorry PrayeR but XMM wins out. But I'm not saying your choice of tool is wrong....
But it is
LOL
No ...... each to his own.
Thats the problem with these type of posts.
Theres no real winner, every1 will always differ in what is the best tool to use.
I had a choice and have choosen MY preference!
