Whats the best version of Mame32 to use these days.

I've been using 0.36 for years now...

Some of the latest versions don't actually seem to do anything other than bring up a command prompt... :?

I love them both. I remember the days that I was the only 68060 user in my country :D You know, it was costing a fortune to buy those accelerator cards.

You should be on 0.89.

On the subject of mame, I see Pleasuredome is still active so that's one active torrent site. Looks like 0.90 is going to be a big one.

Hope so George Tatum.

As I recently aquired all the mame romz from a.b.e.mame and looking forward to having a proper go on M.A.M.E 0.90 :D
Managed to greb the ed2k links to the chd/art/icons/cab files etc etc before this panic happened so pretty sorted on the MAME front :beerchug:

I have Mame 0.89 and all it does for me is give this message..

"MAME is a console application, you should launch it from a command prompt."

I understand what a command prompt is and it generates one when I click mame.exe but this is not how mame32 used to work :matrix:

WTF is occurring?

You're running Mame NOT Mame32.
Mame runs from the command line so in order to run a game you would need to open a command window in the mame directory and type "mame xxxxx" (where xxxxx is the rom name you want to play).
Or you could just download Mame32 ;)

Oh...

I'll go and download the extra 32 bit then.... :wacky:

I've actually found and old ROM of a game I used to play as a 14 year old kid (in '79 :-o ) at the local pub called quasar.

I can't seem to get this to show up after auditing the games.

Is there anyway to check (easily) which version of Mame32 supports this game?

Every version of mame from 0.80 upwards supports quasar.
These are the roms you need in a zip file called quasar.zip

Cool I'll see if I can download a newer version.

On a side note I find that the newer versions do not display the older games as accurately compared to 0.36 etc.

The images are not as defined...maybe it's just me though...

It's just you, you've set your video settings differently between the two different versions.

well thats the first time I've played since 1979 after I got banned from the pub... :matrix:

That was a timewarp for sure - I never did get to complete the game!

Now I need to install my joystick and give it a proper thrashing :beerchug:

Do you have any good links for the artwork in Mame 32 - it is a pretty nice feature being able to see the screenshot previews of the games?

Getting the ROMS these days is a bit of a carry on - I remember staying in on a Saturday night when I lived in Hong Kong and downloaded every single rom from that Brazilian mame site which seems to be long gone (this was around 4 years ago!)

I've got about 1600-2000 roms back home on my desktop pc which I'll need to transfer over to my laptop in a couple of weeks when I go then - I am assuming that 0.82 will play my older ROMS?

Any other hints/tips about good sources for mame32?

If you want to build your own arcade here is my buddy Pats site http://www.myatari.net/issues/oct2002/mame.htm I have absolyely no idea where he got all his ROMS..... 8)

 I've already got my own Cab, but thanks for the link.

As for where to get roms, there's a couple of links in this thread, but I get mine from Usenet in the main.

As the for the screenshots, they are all available at the mame32 q&a site : http://www.classicgaming.com/mame32qa/

Good luck :beerchug:

yup, shareza is a poor client, well infact several poor clients in one. You'd be better off using emule and a bt client.
