Removing rippers tags !!!

what's with the recent (kinda) annoying habit of renaming files:

Title.YEAR.SOURCE.CODEC-GROUP
to
Title.(YEAR).SOURCE.CODEC-GROUP
?

It seems to be more popular these days.. its becoming a full time job restoring the filenames after the rips have downloaded, I really don't get what advantage adding the brackets gives... it just adds crap. The only time i've seen slight merit to it is when the movie title is a year, but even then its not that hard to see what the production year was.

Anyone got any ideas why files are being retagged in this way? What exactly is it supposed to be adding?

When the file name is given in an .nfo... do you ever see ()'s there? Maybe a site or a client is changing it? You know... to keep things neat and annoy the hell out of spud.

no, they aren't in the nfos, they are getting retagged... its not in TDX, its not as annoying as the short scene names though :evil:

Its a trend amongst ed2k sites and its getting very annoying... for me anyway.
I've actually put a lot of them in the word censor so the forum strips them back out :lol:

If i had time to finish a java cataloguer i'd have it automatically rename them then submit the correct filenames to a database :lol:

There are a few exceptions, where the original filenames have the brackets in... i think STR are doing it for some of their rips.... :prat:

but then everyone remembers Film[YEAR].=STR=.avi :wacky:

Lets just say i retagged those for humanitarian reasons :wacky:

Yeah, I've changed a few of the (YEAR)'s myself. I kinda liked the =STR= though, ahahaha

lol, i have to admit publically, i retagged every single STR release with = in the filename so they matched TDX :lol:

That included adding in the source where it was missed ( :wacky:

) and adding . where it was missed too...

I'm just a dirty retagger

But what if = was part of the group name? Or does TDX state only initials?

I don't know why we used to do that, I think it was so we could search for out releases on emule STR brought up too many =str= only brought up our releases :lol:

We've not done it for years now

A true geek keeps all his creations. Not sure about the thread, but I pulled it off my backup drive.

I believe it all started with a reference to MJ and then went down hill from there. Someone at FH put your old avatar on MJ and then I thought you looked better together so put you on stage.
