Putting korean horror aside, are there any good 'hollywood' horrors about at the minute? Recently watched Hostel and thought it was shite for lack of a better word, and I watched the 'stuck in the desert with the crazy mutant people' film (whose name escapes me)...and I thought it was failry crap too. Why is it that eastern cinema is so much more pleasing to watch than hollywood horror? |
hostel is almost as overrated as eli roth is, but you cant argue with the numbers it put up. as for THHE '06, it may have been produced by hollywood, but it was directed and co-written by paris' Alexandre Aja not to mention the cinematographer was Maxime Alexandre from belgium, so im not sure how well that holds up your east vs west debate.
on the other hand, to support your claim, im hearing that The Wicker Man remake is terrible.
as for good hollywood horror, there is a good handful of titles im looking forward to for the rest of the year;
Feast,
TCM: The Beginning,
The Grudge 2 (not a remake of ju-on2, btw),
Saw 3,
The Return,
NOTLD 3-D,
Turistas (!),
Black Christmas (remake),
Pan's Labyrinth.
and thats with only 4 months left out of the year. not including any dvd releases like Imprint, The Roost, and Rest Stop (those dont count as "hollywood" though).
so any, thats my rant for the day...
welcome to D-D.
