After seeing the Amityville Horror remake (I give it a 4 out of 10), I was wondering what horror flicks deserve to be remade, if any. My problem with the current trend of remakes, started by the 'Haunting' in the late '90s (or some argue NOTLD in 1990 sparked the trend, I don't really agree), is that they remake movies that are already good and established. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, even The Ring; were lame, if enjoyable, attepts to cash in on an already successful movie. So I ask, what BAD horror movies deserve a GOOD remake? There are so many that fail at being technically great because of lack of production value and/or poor acting, etc. But maybe they had an interesting base story, or were enjoyable for cheese-sake. With a slick production, some of these could be made into true modern classics, and maybe even redeem hollywood's lack of horror-understanding.

I have seen thousands of horror movies, some good, most bad; but I often wonder what they could have been like with (frankly) a little more money behind them. With Dawn of the Dead, it seems Hollywood is trying to include more gore in their films, though mostly less offensive then your average B-grade 70s\80s horror film. Unless Steven Spielberg makes it, then the shocking gore is OK (ert...). ANd lets not forget the decades of bad films before the 70s....

To get the ball rolling I am gonna say these films deserve better. I am trying NOT to include classics from the likes of Dario or Fulci or Romero, or even D'Amato (though Beyond the Darkness almost made the list).

The Abomination - Ok, I know its terrible, but thats the point, with some talented film-making, this could actually be good and interesting.
Blood Freak - Growth-Hormone-Marijuana-influenced mutant on a killing spree? Add some good gore, some stylish cinemaphotography, and some social-commentary and we have a good film.

What do you all think?

The Fog, while good, is a flawed film. A similar story might be worth watching. Of course this is just going to be a crap remake, so not worth watching. I just feel that Carpenter didn't get everything out of it that he could.
Of course, that means that they're remaking films from the 80s already. Wow!

I agree with Geezus, greedy American (read Hollywoodian) assholes should keep their grubby fingers off of especially Asian stuff. Let them come up with something (new/original) themselves.

I never really bother with remakes. I've seen the Ring, not bad, but the Japanese version had a much better atmosphere imho. Could also be because i saw the Japanese version before the American though...

They're remaking at least one movie (referring to Dark Water) from 2002 already... Sad, isn't it?

Well, yeah, I know that with the OldBoy and Dark water remakes, they're hitting titles made more recently, but I'm saying American movies from the 80's.

All those reasons were why I suggest movies that had potential, but resulted in a horrible movie. Remaking The Fog, IMO, isn't worth it. They are remaking Dark Water?!!! Thats so LAME! I'm starting think this was a poor topic.....

Howabout they remake Hellraiser, starring Elijah Wood as Frank. And then remake Martin with Macauly Culkin!

My point : remake a movie that sucked only!

remaking hellraiser would be the single most terrible idea in the history of single most terrible ideas.

That would be like remaking Evil Dead... oh wait... *Sigh* at least they're not remaking evil dead 2... yet.

possibly, but not knowingly, I would say that it is highly unlikely to be the original mewings of Michael Crighten, infact I think it might have come from Red Dwarf or something similar.

Was not a quote but its probably lifted from somewhere. I do recall something similar in Jurassic Park now that you mention it, sounds like something Brundlefly would say :)

Jeff Goldblum speaks that line, dunno if it's in JP or JP2, and yeah, probably it was never written by Mr. Crichton....

Hollywood takes itself a lot of liberties...

the film i feel that could be improved with a re-make is Death Race 2000,with C.G.I this could be AWSOME. :matrix:
But if this could not happen then a pt 2 would be nice.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1955) Don Siegel. Classic!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Philip Kaufman. Excellent Remake.

Body Snatchers (1987) Abel Ferrara. Continues the bad name of Remakes.
