Just wondering, what makes a release qualified for a mention on the likes of vcdquality or nforce? I'm guessing that it's files released with nfo's and by people involved with 'the scene' or is it something else?

Obviously there are the big name rippers/crews, then there are the small timers (like me, paul-scream, pc_arcade etc.) who just rip for the fun of it, not to compete in some kind of race.

Not really bothered, just wondering how or why the likes of Gorie or Sick have rips released 'properly'?

they are by release groups and follow tdx-standards. they release their movies on their dumps. the groups are also in some kind of race to get their releases out first, but that stuff is independently from the mule/donkey network. this goes also for the likes of VH-PROD, QiX, SChiZO, VCDVAULT...

oh to be honest there's not much different between you/paul-scream/pc_arcade/Suchbi and GORiE/SiCK/iNPSiRE etc etc.

The only different is you ppl chose to rls your rips on eMule prime, where as GORiE/SiCK chose to rls thier rip on FTP.

Oh grp does have to rip according to TDX 2002 rule http://www.sycamoreproject.com/nfo/tdx2002.nfo
and http://www.sycamoreproject.com/nfo/tdx-rules.nfo
(which recently more and more grps requests it to be update http://www.izonews.com/release.php3?releaseid=83523 )

Oh forgotten to mentions a bunch of rippers rls stuff under the same grp names, that's all.

Yeah, except we don't do it as some kind of elitist club.

Don't mean to sound harsh on the 'professionals', they're not a million miles away from us guys, but they'd probably think they were.

I used to trade VHS before DVD came along, to get round the draconian censorship laws in the UK. It was the only way I could get to see uncut versions of the horror movies I love. In some cases, it was the only way I could see a film at all as they were either unreleased in the UK or banned by the bbfc.

With the advent of digital media and the internet, it's now easy to share films without jiffy bags and postage costs ;)

As far as my motivation to rip is concerned, if I've got a movie people would like to see, I'll share it.

oh hehe about 'elitist club' it's for protection purpose, since FBI activtly hunt down those grps as they are orginsianed with damn fast file transfer plus early rls of movies/games etc etc, so some not so nice ppl use that as a way to earn money by selling dvd copys/vcd copys etc etc.

Yeah, I've seen threads on forums before where the rippers hate the pirates, cos the rippers do everything for non-profit then the pirates just take their work and sell it. Maximum profit - minimum effort. Worse than the ED2K network leeches!!

Hmmmm....I'm sure they are decent guys but if the rippers really where THAT nice then why don't they embrace the FORCED sharing of the ed2k network ?
Lack of speed ? Welll, look at it this way, their releases will be talked about longer

Yea, FBI actually is not that bad at busting ppl cos they do actually read forums and go on irc to chat (totally undercover cyber cops hehehe) ( even like this one you never know ehhe)

And like you i don't really worry about myself personally cos everything I donload is the one that big guns (MPAA/MIAA) don't give a toss about, so i share everything i download and let everyone to view my shared folders on eMule.

Another question then, while we're on the subject; What's the significance of the lower case 'i' among the rippers?

i.e. GORiE, SiCK etc. ?
