I can prob speak for most people on here when I say even the best horror films are rarely scary after a certain point/seen so many. However, for me, a few that spring to mind are: The Exorcist. Classic and still effective. An American Werewolf in London. The scenes on the moors and the one in the tube station. The Thing. Has some good jumps and tension. Dead End. I thought this had a certain eerieness mostly lacking in modern horror. The Descent. Had an effective claustraphobic feel. Prince Of Darkness. Seem to be in the minority with this one. Ringu. Saw it before the explosion of eastern horror, sent a shiver down my balls. Fragile. When you first see the nurse... Actually found that a bit scary. Blair Witch. Again, many people disagree, and I hate to be so obvious, but the scene at the end, standing in the corner... Threads. Not a hooror film, but fuckin' scary. Not ness my fave horror films, just ones that I found a bit chilling. |

I'd say Blair Witch is probably the shittest, most boring movie of all time. ![]() Ghostbusters 1 and poltegeist were probably the scariest i recall... requirement is that your under 5 years old though. ![]() |

Well, I agree with you. Its one of those love it or hate it movies. I think it may also have a lot to do with the amount of hype that you were exposed to before seeing it. Anyway, I don't have a top 10 scariest, right now. I agree that most of yours were good. Fragile, though, was completely forgettable. Almost literally, All I remember is some dark hallways in a hospital... |

Well, Suspiria should be in any potential scare list in my opinion. For 1976 the violence was brutal, horrific and totally unrelenting until its grand finale. Such a pretty young lady. As for Blair Witch that is an example of your typical psychological scare tactic. The Thing is a good call. Nice list there. |

Hhhm, my brain is seriously fucked. I have no films that scare me, if anything I tend to laugh pretty hysterically when things get gory or spooky. When I was a kid a film called Nightwing, possibly, scared the crap outta me. Day of the Dead had me somewhat concerned too. Like I said now I get a bit excited, take Freddy vs Jason, saw that in the cinema. The second Kelly Rowland got wasted my brothers and I started laughing like madmen. The whole cinema looked at us like we were madmen LOL :edit: oh and btw, Blair Witch is fucking shit. Not even slightly spooky. Why the fuck do I wanna watch some stupid, snotty, retarded kids running around getting scared by something no-one ever sees? :edit v2: Last time I got scared was a few years back. Near to where I live we have a ruined church in the middle of nowhere, it used to be a village but got wiped out by the plague. Nowadays you get some weird religous people up there doing some strange shit. Anyway, a few years back a mate and I were driving around up the local lanes and came to this church, we parked up and went for a walk, even though it was almost 2 am. We walked for a few minutes and decided to have a smoke and chill. An hour or so passes and we return to his vehicle, but there was a burning ring in the grass around his motor, just a circle of fire. We were stoned and totally freaked, but on reflection it was funny as fuck. To this day we have no idea what the fuck happened. |

"Blair Witch is fucking shit. Not even slightly spooky. Why the fuck do I wanna watch some stupid, snotty, retarded kids running around getting scared by something no-one ever sees?" Funnily enough, that's why it did work for me. The ambiguity of the threat. I know, a populist choice, but I stand by it. Suspira's a good call. Found it more disturbing than scary. |

Definetly Suspiria. The silhouette if the head witch behind that sheet lit in read... among others, scary images. The Shining The Exorcist III I found The Eye to be quite scary for the former half, but the latter is just ridiculous and overblow. It gets a bit too Hong Kong I think. |

I remember Creepshow scaring the hell out of me when I was a kid. My parents were watching it and laughing while I was frozen in fear waiting for that monster to come out of the crate under the stairs... ![]() |

Noroi was scary as shit. Blair Witch sort of setup, but more payoff for those who need to see the beast. Deep Red was probably scarier than Suspiria for me, but those and Tenebrae (even the cut version under the name "Unsane") and Bird with the Crystal Plumage were classic Argento scarefests. Shivers was another classic scary movie. Ju-On is awesome, especially the TV one. Very scary. I find that I went through a long period of not being scared by horror movies when I was a kid, but, now, I'm starting to get over it. Its hard. I have to really let myself get into the movie. But, really, if I couldn't get scared by even the best horror movie, why would I still watch them? Oh, and Freddy vs. Jason was not scary by a long shot. |
