Post subject:  How the Hell do You Guys Catalogue Your Downloads?
OK, was chatting to katya last night and she was amazed that I have no idea what films I have (i.e. I didn't have a list!)

Now been meaning to get round to doing one for months, but with HHAH being such a high source of films, if leave it any longer I'll have 1000's of cd's and then it'll take years :shock:

So what I'm asking is, before I devote ALOT of time to sitting down with spindle after spindle of cd's, which is the best way & tool to use?

Many SR people just tiold me to use notepad, but I can't see that being feasible! I want the to store some info on the film as well (such as if it's stored on cdr or dvdr) so i can find it quickly.

So i know the regulars here must have a shit load of cd's, so how do you catalgoue/store em, so you know what you have and where it is??

We'ce been through this before m8, I can't believe you still haven't done anything about it ! :lol:
I use moviecollectorz, its quick and easy and save having to type in all the details by collecting to imdb (and 4 or 5 others) to get film details. The cd's are then put in those 264 CD storage wallets according to the index number in moviecollectorz. I can find any movie within 1 minute (in theory) :)

Sounds pretty good.

if movie collecterz gets info from imdb that'll save me doing it, and then catalogueing by id is just what I want!

Searching emule for it now, and I will get round to doing a list!

don't bother with emule,
http://www.collectorz.com for the demo (ltd to 50 movies)
and astalavista.box.sk for the crack, although the crack is a bit of a pain to get hold of, you want one of the "all collectorz products" cracks, one of them WILL work :)

I keep my list in an OpenOffice spreadsheet: title with imdb link, year, director, genre, date added (I change date only twice a month), in which wallet it is stored, who borrowed it, number of cds, resolution, video codec, audio bitrate & codec & channels, comments and ed2k link. I get the info from 3 sources: imdb, gspot and emule.

gets info form file (bitrates, resolution and so on), just drag file to it's window.
statistic - u can see statistic , years,codecs, length, framerates and many others of course.

man, use extremme movie manager. ive tried all the other programs, and this is the best(well, for me).
i dont want to sound like an advertisment, but it gets my highest score ive ever given a program, the 'i would actually pay for it' level of praise. has every feature imaginable.

hmmmmm!

Looks like a choice between movie collectorz & extreme movie manager!

Seen ex mov man on SR so it must be popular, will try em both out!

Anybody else reccommend one of these, out of the two?

Sorry but I require a locally managed system that i can save on my hard drive. the online options look good, but I'd prefer to have all the info on my PC accessible when ever i need it.

Otherwise I'd of gone for your or Apocalipstick's approach :wink:

You should know that EMM is a proggy that you probably need to pay for. I couldn't find any working crack.. or, it works until you start getting info from the net and then I guess there's an inbuilt check that also connects to it's homepage and notices if you have a cracked version.

It's only 10$ and it's the only proggy I've EVER paid for. =)

As for how I actually store the CD's, I use special cd-folders. Each folder holds 96 cd's, and I've got 14 of em, almost full now. I print out numbers and categories and stick it to the backside of the folders. So I have for example a folder that says '1 - Horror', '3 - Comedy', '5 - Kung-Fu', '11 - Itallian Horror'. Then I write the page nr. on each page inside the folder and finally I write down in what folder and page each cd is stored like this '10x4' (meaning folder 10, page 4). It's time consuming work, but wel worth it. I can find any movie in about 10 seconds now. =)

I like this way of storing cd's so much, I'm contemplating doing it to all my other cds (games, proggys and audio) as well. And it also looks great standing in my shelf. Will take a picture once I get a camera...

i never buy CD-R's without boxes
and never store them in CD-folders etc.
your ways of storing can damage CD's.

i store them in rows.
in ABC order.
when i burn new CD - i just put it in abc order.
so i can find CD in 10 sec.
(they all signed at the side)

I used to do that, until I got past 2000 cds. The covers just take up too much space! Mucn neater to have them in folders.
And they're not damaged. In fact I've never damaged ONE of my cds. I still got some cds from 94-95.. That was back when they came in gold and couldn't take anything before getting unreadable. Still works (although I never use them)
