Sounds good until you get to the part where you have to use DC++

What we should have, is a forum full of like-minded individuals, where we can post verified ed2k links to horror movies.

Oh hang on... :wacky:

Aren't you supposed to take full files from someone on DC++? And isn't that illegal? :googley:

What's the difference?

Anyway, I can't get my eMule to work, I need complex port forwarding, static IP etc. and I miss all the good stuff :(

ed2k is decentralised P2P with strong communities sharing verified links. Also, IMO, ed2k has some of the best rippers in P2P.

DC++ is almost a bastardized FTP protocol largely run by egostistical hub-ops that love 'teh powah' of being able to restrict access to users if they so wish.

Aah, the old "I can't get something to work so I'll try and make the 1000's of members of this site to switch to something I can, rather than trying to sort it out" gambit

Why not just ask for some help?

hehe, I love the reaction to "lets devolve 10 years" :)

Personally, examine the protocols and the advantages find both torrent and DC++ steps backwards in terms of filesharing. Torrent's reliance on a tracker is really unsecure, DC++ just takes the central reliance on a single source and ups that; chuck in nazi admins, traders and lamers they aren't a million miles apart.

Best thing Direct Connect ever did was become the fall guy for "p2p" and i thank it for that :)

A technology that is very, very old but still superior to the two options above is Newsgroups. It is faster than both and works side by side with emule (no real hit because there is no upload), gets you new releases fast whilst emule is all about availability and retention.

Speaking of devolving/evolving. Here is to hoping that Kad got a big dev push from the recent server issues.

You can download from multiple sources. So that's not reaaally true :)

Like you don't need that with DC++?

Oh wait you are probably one of those lazy bums who prefers passive connection instead of active and complains when they can't download from another passive client and hog the server with redundant searches?

You don't need DC to have egotestically obsessed admins.
Lots of ed2k sites which has those as well. :wacky:

Haha, OK, I can see some users were very very offended at this suggestion, which was ONLY based on the fact that I once had a hub and it was very very easy to make! The reason for me being a passive bastard is that I just couldn't get the active user to work! I've tried hard, believe me.

Anyway, I just spend the whole day with port forwarding, and did it the correct way I hope, but it doesn't work on emule. So I guess I didn't. I've used the guide on port forward . com etc. but it just won't do. What could be the problem? I really have no idea, I've done exactly what they asked. I have a static IP adress, I've connected it to this computer's protocol, I've set up all the servers, i've done all i can. no work. no connection. on dc++ i can connect though.

That's the bit you need to explain. How does it 'not work'?

It doesn't connect to a server?
It connects but doesn't download?
You have LowID?
etc.
etc.

I can connect to servers.

At first it connected and dl for some time w/ 17 kb / s Then I reconnected and then nothing. I have 5-6 dl's trying, none connect.

I have a blindfolded donkey - low ID

OK, now it suddenly goes well w/ two dls (14 kb/s each). Is that a normal dl rate? The blindfold is also suddenly gone. Don't know why, but it's the first time since i got the new net that the low id disappeared.

Now one of the dl's disappeared again..
