Post subject: | Horror night at the dorm |
Hello mates! Following Slayer's suit (example) I am planing on arranging a "Horror Night" at the dorm where I stay durring weekdays. Looking at my study schedule and taking into account that most partys (in the dorm) are hosted on thursdays I plan to do it on a monday night. There is a multimedia room at the bottom floor to accomodate 80 to 100 people which also has a nice projector and sound system - I yet have to have a look at them though. I planned to show 3 (maybe 4) horror movies giving the students a chance to vote which they would like to see. There would be a vote before each movie with some movie candidates. I planned to offer 4 choices for each vote. I kindly ask you to give me some good examples for movies and also why I should pick them. Later on we can decide which will go together into a voting. What I also need is to advertise this event. Usually coloured flyers are placed in different places (entrance, elevators, floors) of the dorm. I have noticed that Macabria seems to have a creative mind. I am happy for any help, because I know that design and graphical creativity is not my vocation. I also thought about wearing my dead-donkey T-shirt durring the event and using the dead-donkey as some kind of brand to advertise it. I hope spud reads this and allows me to do it. ![]() So please please please, post ideas, thoughts and any help. Thank you for reading until the end and for any help in advance! * Updated list of movies suggested so far (ordered by year):

Evil Aliens & Feast: Because these are by far the most entertaining comedy/horror/splatter films I've seen in the last 12 months ![]() |

What's your intention with the movienight? Just pleasure, or...? The horrornight I had, was part of a larger organised movienight and I had the purpose of letting younger kids know what horror used to be like in the 70s and 80s. If you have that purpose as well, I'd recommend totally different movies to you than if you were having the purpose of showing the goriest movies you know, or you just want to have fun. The word "dorm" makes me think of students, so I guess your ages are like 20-25? This makes a difference also, you know ![]() |

Totally right. Dorm = students aged 18+ Of course it should be fun, but I would like to show movies which they most likely haven't seen already. So showing Saw 4 is not my intention. There could be a short description beside each movie candidate describing the theme, so people would know from the beginning what they can expect / choose from. I also planned to shortly say some words about each candidate maybe also to show the movie poster (on a notebook of course)... Maybe I am to enthusiastic about this - I sometimes thend to be. Therefore I need your help to hit the spot. One movie I haven't seen yet but was thinking about to show was "Forever Evil". It sounds interesting and I think it will be enjoyable too. |

Most of these movies look like comedy. I think it wouldn't hurt to also have some movies which do not include things to really laugh about. What do you think? Any suggestions here? I think Waxwork would be an interesting movie. I'll add it to the list above. Please help me to find some more, so I can pick 9 of them. Reason: I decided to have 3 candidates for each voting and to show 3 movies in total. It should start around 19:30 and go until midnight. ![]() |

Yeah, I loved Ravenous. That film surprised me, it was not what I was expecting. |

From Beyond would be another good one, you could even take out Re-Animator since, whilst its a better film, more people will have seen Re-animator already ![]() As for wearing your t-shirt, go for it ![]() ![]() |

Why not throw some older, classic movies in the mix? Some examples/loose suggestions: Night Of The Living Dead (Great classic film) Tales from the Crypt (1970's version) Dawn of the Dead (original?) Nosferatu The Fly Psycho (original. I know, probably seen it billions of times) The Exorcist (more of a comedy these days) The Omen Rosemary's Baby |

I rethought some points and had an idea that it might be enough to show 2 movies - 3 might be too much. When I start at 19:30 and consider each movie to be about 90 minutes the "Horror Night" will be over at 0:00. But I forgot to consider the voting time and maybe a 10 minute break for the students to go to the toilets. So it could start at 20:00 and with some voting time and short breaks approximately end at 0:00. What do you think? Another idea I had is that the movies to choose from could be grouped into specific categories. Like: "Horror Comedy" or "Underrated Underdogs" or "Classic Flicks". So people can expect to see a horror/comedy and something they have never heard of (expect they are a dead-donkey member). ![]() |

2 movies is not enough my friend. When I have a night like this at home we have a minimum of 4 movies. We make a night and think 'fuck it' about the next day. If we have to have 1 day of being tired and feeling shitty then so be it, it is a small price to pay for the memories of a happy night before. Nights like this should be an 'event', not merely a night when 'we watched 2 movies'. ![]() |

I'm gonna show movies at my old students association, where I didn't invent the "Night of Bad Taste" grindhouse-like movieshowing, but I manned it the first time, then organised it all other times afterwards. Next one is gonna be the 6th time. I always show 4 movies there on the big screen. This time they are gonna be: - Zombie Lake - 99 Women - Voyage to the Planet of the Prehistoric Women And I need one more, and there is so much to choose from... I don't mean to hijack this thread, so if someone has options for me, please pm them. Options posted here should be for RedVeil's horrornight. ![]() |

Howabout "Night of the Creeps" and "From Beyond" 80s or "Dellamorte Dellamore" and "Dead Alive" 90s or "Feast" and "Planet Terror" 00s Horror with some slapstick always is more fun in groups. ![]() |

I found my last movie on this site: I'm gonna show Rush as the fourth film. RedVeil: I really think you should reconsider the number of films. Two is just for wussies. Three is a minimum and you should really think about going even beyond that number. |

Ok thanks for the feedback! ![]() I think I will show 3 movies and if enough people show interest there will be even more the next time. ![]() I think I don't group the movies by decade, but by some categories like: vampire movies, horror comedy, zombie movies. So people have at least a little impression what they can expect. Thanks for not trying to hijack the thread, Slayer. ![]() As always I updated the list of suggested movies at the beginning. If you can think of any three movies suggested (or not) and a reasonable grouping feel free to post them below. |
