Im planning on buying all the x-files dvd's. The problem is that its quite difficult to figure. 8 seasons has been released in an american and an english box, whats the difference in those two boxes ? Then there's released a couple of episodes on 3 dvd's but is it episodes there isnt in the boxes ? The DVD's im talking about is existence, nothing important happened today and deadalive. I figure that the last two are of season 9, but arent they releasing a box ? And the way i understood things, existence is the last episodes of season 8 but arent they included in the box ?

I hope somebody can help me here.

It isn't messy at all really, or no more so than any other Fox series

Firstly. There are DVDbox sets. These have every single episode released on. Series 1 is 4:3. I have no idea what the quality difference is between them, but they are made by fox, and they normally spend more time and money on the European releases, or at least that's the case for some of their other box sets (ie. Buffy).

The dvds with a few episodes on are quite different. I have the first two 'files' on vhs. What they are are extended feature length x-files story. The second in particular is the best. It is the best episodes of the x-files moulded seamlessly into one feature length episode, so that's the two/three parters made into one. The second one I'm referring to is called Tooms. It has a bit of new footage, and continuously shows episode 2 and I think 22 from the first series. However, if you own the box sets, I wouldn't bother. You will have almost all the footage in the individual multi-part episodes, all the case files are are the episodes put together without the credits :) Kinda like simpsons compilations, all on the box sets but often later series episodes are out a lot sooner on the compilation tapes

Thanks for clearing things up. One thing though, the american is about 50 ? (you still use this, right ?) more expensive than the english, that doesnt make any sense if the european/british is the most extensive.

makes perfect sense, European version has sold more I think, therefore it has come down in price.

The price went down when Fox of europe decided to cut the prices of all their box sets.

I'd do some googling before buying to see which one is best, but for most series thus far, and contrary to how europe is usually shunned, the european releasers have been better.

just wanted to say that this is based on other series fox have done, I can't comment on x-files specifically, it's just my assumption. So I'd definitely check before buying. Personally I'd forget the case files, well maybe consider buying file 2: tooms, because that's the best x-files story anyways :D
