HELL YEAH!....

dvd-r rocks!! totally i was wondering when ppl here will make a dvd-r instead of a time consuming divx rip, from next year i gonna buy my self a dvd burner, i gonna get this one... a plextor 708a, i know plextor is quality and worth a closer look...check the link

http://www.str8buy.com/liton16cdwbu.html

a friend of mine have it and he rips a dvd in 30min and burn in 10min, and the quality is 100% every time. u get all extra and menus, it feels and act like you have the orginal.... ofcoz it takes a bit longer to download but what the heck its like haveing the real dvd so that dont matter for me if i get a dvd-r instead of a dvix...

...the next year is the year of the dvd boom.....

i would like to see a dvd-r section in hhah... that would be great... i know moving from divx to dvd-r can be hard to do for some but this one everyone should crawe for its worth it... its like owning the orginal what more could u ask for...

I voted "NO"

Coz in the reality, we still need avi releases for the majority of people who DON'T have DVDR.

And also the majority of horror dvds aren't really great quality or overflowing with decent extras!

And like spud commented on a post a couple of days ago, bandwidthwise for us UK peeps with capped uploads, it's not feesable at the moment.

If the disc was worth the release, then I'd click and help it spread. but I can't think of a Horror DVD thats worth the 4GIG download. I'd rather have the avi

Or purchase the disc.

having said that I copy discs/back-up alot of dvd's and enjoy having 1:1 copies with all the menus/extras etc.

But it's a bandwidth issue.

Currently I'm downloading the LOTR:TT DVD-R release

I vote NO!

Even if I buy a DVD burner (I'm still waiting for some unified standard, stupid me  ), it's still a waste of bandwidth. The newest DivX and Xvid codecs give very good quality, at least it's sufficient for me.

I voted maybe. I am getting a DVD burner in the next couple of months, but like the others said, it is a case of bandwidth. Sure I can grab a 4 gig file in a fairly short time, but in reality, especially with the mule, I almost never get even half my maximum speed on several combined downloads, let alone hit full speed sustained on just one file. I would also feel like a leecher as it would take so long to be able to share back even 4 gig on just one file, and I always upload atleast 150% of each file, much more if I can.

Basically, with the state of mule, kazza, etc it would be too much of a commitment, mainly due to the uploading that would be required and the time taken to download, for me to deal with DVD images. Maybe ion a few years when ppl are more willing to contribute more of their upload bandwidth, and also when I have more upload bandwidth to spare.

By all means start a DVD-R section, but for me atleast it will go unused for the foreseeable future. If others on the board will use it then go for it.

On a related note, how is the situation over in the states and other countries regarding bandwidth usage? Over here in the UK we only have a couple of major suppliers for BB, TeleWest, NTL and BT. I know NTL have a cap in place for downloads, not sure about uploads tho, altho I have no idea how strictly it is enforced. BT have been known to disconnect customers who they claim abuse the service thru overuse, altho how you abuse an unlimited and unmetered service is beyond me. I personally am with TeleWest BlueYonder, and they are cool. They recently revised the terms and conditions of use, and the best part is they consulted the users first, and initial draft effectively banned all P2P apps, but after some arguements etc they rewrote the T&C's to allow pretty much anything as long as it causes no detrimental effects to other local users, so my upload is set to 28K all the time my system is on, and so far I have had no letter from TW telling me to leave off, altho I have in the past been asked to check that I was not infected with something due to my high upstream usage, but no further action was ever taken.

I got a good point : How many horror movies are actually worth downloading for weeks ?

Let's face it ; there are 3 categories:

1 The ones you've seen & know and love but either have seen to often or own already....
2 The ones you've seen & know and never want to see again in your entire life (50-80% of the divx you've downed)
3 The ones you don't know ( and probably don't want to either )

Say, you're a die hard fan of swarzenegger ; ofcourse then you must and will down the dvd-r.....
But to click a ed2k dvd-r just on the faith it MIGHT be a interesting flick.........NOT ME BUDDY......

though d0c IS right you know.....next year is gonna be dvd boom as far as ed2k goes...

The thing is I might rerelease some of my stuff in dvd-r but the thing is it's quite rare taste stuff.....bandwidth will be even more precious.....and if only half a dozen guys are interested why bother ? :!:

I'd be interested in doing it..the only thing though like what was mentioned before is the time issue as they are going to be Large files to transfer so if we do this everone that releases has to keep their rip up for quite a while to get it spread. But I am more than receptive to the idea of this.It is going to take a bit more commitment on the part of releasers for this though so no dead links..imagine gettting almost 2 gbs of a dvd'r file and then poof it vanishes...happens here with just avi files it would be a serious pisser if you took all that time and then it goes into the shitter. So in other words I did vote yes but I think it has to be talked about among the ones that are willing to do it as far as file size and quality level of these as well as file availability.

I vote NO,I think it's too early for DVDr-links,most people wait until the Burners get cheaper and better.....
And now there are also standalone DVD-Players which are able to play Mpeg4 ( =DivX) so you could also use the DVD-r for DivX-movies (5-6 movies on 1 DVD!)....

The biggest problem is the bandwith,4 GB on eMule? When you can have comparable quality which has about 700 MB?? :|

also unkike say ps2 game rips where audio and/or FMV is stripped out 2 fit on a cd, the film quality is still better than yer average vhs for divx etc. i hope 2 be able 2 buy a dvd burner in the new year as they can be got at a more respectable price now (less than a ton) but will mainly stick several movies on 1 disc rather than just 1.

Price really isn't an issue, quality burners can be bought for well under ?100, media is cheaper than cds (well okay it's more than a single disc but much cheaper than x6 cds).

The problem is bandwidth. There's enough trouble trying to spread an avi let alone 4Gb of rars.

I do download dvd-r from ed2k and bit torrent, I have enough downstream for that. Just not upstream :(

For me absolutely: No!
I already have a dvd-burner and I am glad that I can get 6 - 7 divx on one media. This is all that counts. I don't need menus. One language is enough for me. And I don't care for extras. I want to see a movie and not some self-adulation of third rate (or even first rate) actors/directors
Furthermore I have seen 700mb divx rips which were hardly worse than a genuine dvd. So why waste precious bandwidth and still not cheap dvd-media?
