yeppers, i read about this the other day at ;the register; http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/1/index.html and my favorite p2p site http://www.p2pnet.net/riaa5.html its finaly sounds like a step in the right direction for some sanity regarding filesharing, rantmode on! but i'd still use as much(if not more) privacy/security related programs and stay low profile if you live in the usa. one thing ive learned is laws dont apply to big business, they will still try to sue anybody(and everybody) anyway they can, wether techniquely legal or not. (because they are greedy bastards who want to rule with an iron fist) so still use precautions with p2p, i;m sure the copywrite police will still try to track people down and squeeze anything they can until they buy the law back in thier own favor. so (for anybody who's bothered to read this far, or has the slightest interest) keep fighting the evil greedy bastards, sign petitions, bitch like i do, read up on the applicable laws and how they screw you, ah, thats enough screeching from me. for now. |

i had seen some reports saying that the mpaa was not going to go on a riaa style-sue-'em-all for downloading movies. i doubt they would just turn a blind eye to the whole thing. I figured the new laws in the usa that were not in the riaa's favor was just a marketing trick to get people to think the music industry really was suffering, so people would pity the music industry and buy more cd's for christmass. |

MPAA are more concerned with the people bootlegging and selling, so their focus lies mainly in stopping the recording of CAMS/TS (I noticed a trailer before LOTR, first time at cinema i've seen a notice before a movie at showcase) and the distribution of pirate discs (Mainly in Asia, China being the hotspot). They obviously go after peopel on p2p, but normally just send out letters rather than prosecution. |
