I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's downloaded a movie or two, only to find out it's a totally different movie or just a trailer for the movie you wanted or simply a .rar file full of transvestite porn (I promise, I had no idea :)

Especially when you're trying to get a new film, there's so many fakes out there, finding the real mckoy can be a pain in the ass...

But who makes all these fakes? Some people claim it's all the studios who put them out there to fuck it up for those who try to download them, but does that mean there's actually people who's job description consists of making fake movie files? I can understand there's a bunch of assholes who would make them as a prank (ha.ha. so fucking funny.. probably the same people who program virus') but still.... why anyone would bother putting in so much effort for something you don't even get to see the result of just seems like a huge waste of time to me...

i don know what to say
i ve downloaded only one fake movie
it was sleep dealer
i think it is combination of pranks bored children and studio sabotage
but nowadays it has no effect...
it was very problematic with download limit of 7 GB not with flat internet

in the olden day, idiots would do it to artificially share a 'rare' film and seed it quicker. In terms of null/fake parts, those are generally seeded by purposely created anti-piracy shops hired by studios. HBO, etc. were well known for fake seeding on torrent.

havent downloaded any fake since 2003 and that only with emule... if you download fakes today, you dont know what to look for, its easy to spot a fake today. here is a few things to keep looking for..


1 check the filesize
2 compare releaser name/group releases
3 uploader reputation
4 comments from other people
5 one big winrared/winziped file

etc....

Fakes are done by trolls.
How to avoid them? Very simple: Only use reliable boards. If you're into torrents (I haven't used eMule in years), you can start with www.newtorrents.info (which is ALWAYS reliable) and www.thepiratebay.org (which is HUGE and usually reliable, but you can always read the comments - if it's a fake then people will comment about it).
