| Post subject: | Who is the New Blood? |
Who are the new crop of great horror film directors? I'm not going to include a poll, so just throw some names out here. Miike - He mostly does extreme/cult cinema, but his love of violence crosses him over enough. And Audition is a masterpiece. Hideo Nakata - Ringu and Dark Water are enough for me. Marc Evans - I wanted to include a western director. My Little Eye freajced the crap out of me, so I think he deserves some mention. Plus, everything else he has done is horror/suspense. To me, he seems someone to watch This list is so short. There must be, at least, a few more. So, let's hear it. |

Honestly, I have currently NO Favorites .... nor do I reckon anyone (anymore) to have a gift for the genre ... Then again i'm one of those moaners who believes that good horror movies haven't been made in over 20 years .... |

Ronny Yu seems to be active but I'd hardly say he's great. M. Night Shamalayan did his sixth sense, which was okay, then dropped the ball with Signs; hardly horror though. David Fincher has his Se7en,Fight Club, the Game and Alien3, but did Panic Room. Not out-and-out horror either, and hardly 'new'. the horror genre is pretty dead if u ask me by now... some goodies still come but its like 20 years in between they come.... sad but true! |

M. Night Shamalayan is soooo overrated!!!! I think i am the only guy who hated Sixth Sense I figured out the twist ending within the first 12 min Signs ... Oh god i hated it .. the tin foil hats? 
They don't make Horror films anymore they make or try to recycle the great genre of the past. the original horror film has surely died. They can't even make a good old unintentional bad b movie anymore! |

Byeong-ki Ahn, the director of Horror Game Movie/Nightmare and Phone is another one worthwatchging. Nightmare was okay with a few creepy moments. And, to me, Phone was a masterpiece. It reminded me of Argento's best, plot holes everywhere, but some stuff to freak you out. |

First of all, I think you made a typo. The topic should offcource be 'Who is the new flesh?' =) Kiyoshi Kurosawa's 'Cure' and 'Kairo' are on my alltime top list. Alejandro Amen?bar is also king offcource because of the birlliant 'Tesis' 'Abre Los Oyos' and 'The Others'. I'm also anxious to see what Jaume Balaguer? will make after 'Darkness'. And if Gaspar No? will manage to make a worthy followup to 'Irreversible'. And whatever happened to 'Super Troopers' creators Broken Lizard's new supposed horror film? |

I've seen the trialer foir Club Dread. It looks funny. I agree iwth all your choices except Noe. I found Irreversible to be lame. And, with Kurosawa, I'm not sure if he counts as new. He's been making movies since the 80's. I won't argue with you too much though. Most of hsi great horror is recent and, at least, you've come up with a few names. I should have thought of Amenabar. I've been trumpeting him for a while. |

WHat about writers? Of all the screenwriters or authors, who is the new blood? I can't think of anyone. Kathy Koja's the newest author I've read and she's been around since the 80s too. |

I guess K?ji Suzuki who wrote the original novels Ringu and Dark Water were based on is worth mentioning. If you want an extremley good book recomendation try this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 57-1778807 I found it at the end of a Clive Barker paperback. you know sometimes they contain ad's for other books... Well, this one is now one of my favorites. so good and different to read. mixes many genres; sci-fi, suspence, drama and comedy (it's very funny at times). it's a 'must-read'!! I'm just glad the Kevin Williamson hype has faded... |

I LOVE Michael Marshall Smith's books, I've read all of them and they are all excellent. Spares especially would make a superb film (very dark subject matter). |
