Did not know if I could put this topic in this subforum, so my apologies if I cross the line. But I was wondering if there are people downloading movies from there? Have downloaded quite some great releases from there (maybe someone knows the great dude who called himself The_Bong_Ripper, he got mayor great shit posted in a.b.m.horror and a.b.monter-movies). Maybe if some of you do use Usenet it is best to use that as some kind of fast share, so the flic is immediately amongst several people's ed2k sharing list? Just a thought. |

unfortunately isp newsgroups are shite in this country and I don't have enough money to pay for a capped limit on top of isp bills ![]() |

I've got uncapped news group access fairly cheaply through http://www.usenetserver.com, it doesn't HAVE to be expensive ![]() |

The best way to get maximum benefit from usenet requires a 2 prong approach! First get yourself an account on Easynews.com. Ok its $9.99 a month but if you're a UK guy like me, that's so cheap you'll never notice the expense with current exchange rates (~ ?6.00). Now, that gets you a minimum of 6gig a month to download (there are lots of offers on the site to bump that up considerably), plus -and this is the crucial bit - near instant indexing of files. You'll want this as it gets around the main problem with metered NNTP access in that it takes forevor (and a lot of bandwidth) to keep your subscribed groups up-to-date! Next get yourself a cheap usenet account with somebody like Claranet. This'll cost you about ?10 a year, for 10gigs a month, or you can pay a bit more for unmetered access. Now you use both! Track your files with Easynews, but download them mainly from Clara. Get your .pars and fills off easy, in order to dodge the short cache period... and bingo! Obviously your P2P stuff is good to run at the same time provided you've got a D/L manager that can regulate its bandwidth, and naturally only if you've got you're bandwidth to spare! Bear in mind too that Easynews have some frighteningly fast servers that will always max your bandwidth, and using Grabit on Claranews and doubling up the server list, I can max my 1Mb connection out there too! Ideal for impatient bastards like me! |

@Irving The things you mentioned are from the past ![]() Usenet is trying hard but still can't max out my connection, got 8Mbit downstream since a few weeks now ![]() |

Whoa! Newzbin.com is pretty handy. Thanks for the tip Skull. I'd still recommend easynews though. I know a lot of folks usinmg their service and every one of them has been impressed. Oh yeah, and easynews via http: *will* max out your 8mb line. Trust me. The only downside is the way you can burn through a month's bandwidth in half an afternoon! But if you've got some cpu to spare, signing up for things like the distributed computing stuff for cancer research can generate you a shitload of credits. I shouldn't say this really, but one of the IT guys at my office signed up everyone for the distributed computing thing! The amount of credits he racked up in a month or two was unreal. And all for a good cause too! |

i got preetty good retention thru my isp. 6-7days. but they block the larger duch posting dvdr groups, which ive read r runing the Usenet, like ftn boneless nl and the dvdr r groups - istill get cores tho. & i have acess to all ISC active grps ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/CONFIG/active anyhow i leech from it pretty consistantly 24/7 and i also max my connection at 86-90 kb/s i check newsbin 4 or 5 times a day but i always find shit thats not listed so im always lookin for a head up on shit. actually im a bit obsessed with the binaries . the 40 or 50 binariy grps i subcribe to i check religoulsy. i hate to grab the headers and find ive missed the majority of something i really want. its pretty time consuming. i also use xnews. i fooled w/ grabit for about an hour and have it installed but dont think the swich is necassary. i hear aot of good things about grabit but i guess im just used to using the filters on xnews. I still havent been able to figure why so many peeps say it better than xnews? xnews rocks imho and if i ever lose the Usenet service i wont have any prob paying an extra 10 bucks per moth. Its really worth it imho. I do get fuct alot of times tho on quality , usually thers an nfo but not always anyhow i dont have great upload ability and since im grabing from xnews so much i usually have to limit it cause of retention. so if anyone else wants to start releasing newsgrp horror releases I probably have a copy and would be intrested in helping it spread. with 3 or 4 of us i dont think we'd have a prob releasing everything posted on a.b.m.horror. |
