It might be an idea for new posts to say the source of the rip, eg. The Grim Reaper German Astro DVD, this should help clear up whether a rip is cut or uncut.

Agreed, very few here would be happy with a cut version of anything (unless it is something ultra-rare).

2 true, 2 true, though i have seen some dvd covers, and distributors that say things like ;completely uncunt', uncensored' and they are still cut all to shit.
sometimes i see longer running times listed because of inserted black spacers, like between scenes, or slowing the end credits down.

that kind of shit just sucks ass.

It's a nice idea, but I'd be suprised if it wasn't unworkable, alot of the rips posted on this site are group rips, and you will NEVER be able to find out where the rip originated from. Also in a couple of cases (even with STR's rips) som DVD's come from sources we'd rather not divulge (or if we did there may not be any more releases from that source).

Where possible though I'm happy to do this :)

I didn't mean that type of source, of course the original source will not always be known, say the release of Fight For Your Life which is listed as a DVD-R rip. But if the source is known then it can avoid the sort of confusion that has been happening lately, such as the ongoing Grim Reaper saga, and I see the uncut Delirium rip is already being queried.

Sorry, I just re-read my post and I wasn't clear, I meant the source as in which DVD / VHS release the rip was created from, NOT who supplied it.

Those comments stand, for example the bloodweiser rips in the Video nast thread, you would find in nigh on impossible to find out which release the group used to create their rip (who would you ask for one?).

As I said, where possible I'm happy to do this. However as stated (and for the reasons stated, it will not always be possible)

As for now, the format for release thread titles is:
Title (Year) (additional_info)

...and we're going to stick to that. By additional info we mean vital information, not file specs (like audio and video codec), which are usually posted in the body of the message. One exception is when there are a few rips of the same title, then you may post the name of the releaser/group for the particular rip, just to differentiate it from other rips.

Anyway, we have many rippers here, who usually know whether their version is or isn't uncut. Also the person posting someone else's rip may have such information and I can see no reason why they should keep it secret. Whenever it is clear that the rip is uncut, this info is provided in the thread title (as additional), so I don't think we need to change anything.

The titles are fine, I just think it is a good idea to state in the body of the message which DVD or VHS a rip is taken from, where known, as there has been a lot of confusion about this lately.

Yes, I was working on a mod where it was madatory to fill in certain bits of info. For example, scout through the section and you'll find films that had no imdb nor year in their filename and then have a title that is at least 3 horror films.

I'd have though in a thread it is important, if you ripped yourself to say if it is cut or not (if you know) and/or put the edition of the dvd you ripped from, in addition to including filespecs (which are a piece of piss to produce, two clicks if you follow my guide in the help section) and imdb link.

Then with the addition of a screenshot if you feel like it. Its necessary to do this with horror is because the genre is shunned and often very low budget productions.

I agree, in the thread cut status and dvd edition are decent bits of info to include. i will include the edition in all my threads for my rips :)
