Prolly not, but interesting none the less is news that the BBC have approached ITV, Channel 4 and 5 in respect of launching there own satellite service. It is a complicated situation that leads to them having to be on Sky, and even worse that they have to pay thru the nose for it.
Details are sketchy ATM but they believe they will be able to launch there own service for less than they currently pay Sky for carriage. Rumours like this have circulated before, but this is the first genuine one as all previously were denied.
On a sidenote, in one of my trade rags smellywest are quoted as saying they could easily provide more upstream bandwidth, but are "hoping our customers do not realise how limited upstream usage is when downstream is being fully utilised", despite telling customers who request more upstream bandwidth that it is "technically not achievable". BT have stated downstream will NOT be increased on any of it's services for the foreseeable future.
The report also goes onto state that merger talks are hush hush between NTL and TW, but are still happening and it looks even more likely that the larger NTL will be swallowed up by TW, who have managed to come out on top financially due to better financial management.

Hoo-fucking-ray and about bloody time too. NTL deserve to die a slow painful death as a company.

TW aren't any better. I rang them to request information on their cable TV packages. They passed me to three different people, none of whom could help, then cut me off.
First and last contact with that bunch of idiots.

insider? That mean you read the metro too?
Those BBC talks have been going on for f*cking ages, I think what it boils down to is ITV and channel 5 being utter shit and incompetant

Can't stand cable digital myself. Sky on the other hand, altough it has quirks in the interface and I think it desperately needs a TiVO like service of better quality (especially with the increasing number of channels), its probably the best thing you get on british tv
