Former crazed Nintendo emperor Hiroshi Yamauchi is throwing out wild ideas again. At a press conference held in Nintendo's home town of Kyoto, Yamauchi revealed his desire to get Nintendo started in the production of theatrical animated films. Yamauchi plans to propose this idea at a company management meeting in October.

Commenting on his newest plan, Yamauchi said at the press conference, "I'd like to produce works that are not just for Japan but can be used overseas as well. Game software and the creation of movies are close to one another. It will be decided at the management meeting, but we should go off in this field." Unconfirmed reports indicate that he finished off with five minutes of hysterical laughter.

Those hoping for a Mario or Zelda animated theatrical film shouldn't get your hopes up too high, as Yamauchi seems to have different things in mind. Yamauchi revealed that he imagines animated projects based off the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, a collection of Japanese poems from between the 7th and 13th centuries. Yamauchi is the president of the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Project foundation, whose goal is to promote interest in the classic works.

October is an important month for movies in Japan as Tokyo holds its annual film festival. Perhaps we'll be hearing something from Nintendo at that time.
