To be fair they get huge amounts of hits. Just look at the downtime FN has had amongst other sites, and that is dwarfed by Sharereactor.

I bet it's hard getting a stable server that supports that many hits at an affordable price and wants to host a site of that nature. That's why it's hosted on their own server, which means it's costs a lot to run.

eh, maybe they make a few bucks with the ads,(though i have a few shady theories on subsidized costs) but i couldnt see how they break even, much less catch a profit. i see em always asking for donations of equipment and webspaces.
but, hell, i dont know why anybody does anything.

usually admins and mods pay.
and if u have SITE (u have page with some stuff, not only forum) with forum..
and u get about 30000-40000 clicks per day u can sell some banner space... :-/ 1500-2000$ in month for one big banner..
so sometime they earn a lot of money.. :-/

well.
at first, what is SR? forum (less money)? which one? warez?
well, in russia warez sites r kinda popular and they can get money for banner.. like example from internet shor or shit like that..
in other world - i really dunno. will ebay buy bunner even on very well visited site if that site is with illegal content. in russia - yes.
in russia u can buy any software CD or movie or game or even DVD for 2-4$. everywhere. it's not legal but nobody gives a fuck.
in my univercity where i studied was big shop with warez CD's.. (not russia but close to her).
so in that case only one way - porn banners, or penis erlagement.
hehe. it's clear why they dont want such "banners"

or simple - they have no management. or sucky one.
dunno.
i was in close relationships with russian warez sites. and i know that 2000$ in month for banner on well visited site is normal price.
u have 30000-50000 clicks in day - u got it.

It's back up now.

Well, in that "have-to-refresh-3-or-4-times-to-get-access-to-a-page-cuz-it-keeps-failing-to-load" kind of way we all know and love.
