What is the problem? I have no problems using exe from P2P. Starting them under wine or vmware poses no thread for my system and reveals malware really fast. And since I use Windoze only to play I would not even mind if the keygen contained a virus and infects my real Windoze partition, as long as it works. After the game is finished the contaminated Windoze copy is replaced by an hd image from DVD. Of course such 'reckless' behaviour is only possible, if you don't have something important on you Windoze partition and never connect it to the internet. But who would do such a stupid thing? ;-)

God only knows, after Valve booted 20,000 accounts for piracy, I'm sure as hell not gonna check it out as I've actually PAID for this one (!)

Second, the number of people who actually had bought HL2 and used the CD key cheat was VERY small. VERY small. Most people just tried to rip off the game and not bother buying it.

Just one question: Where do they get their information? If I buy my game from Valve (what I never ever will do now) and use the CD Key, how can they distinguish that from a unpaid self-defence copy?

ALL original copies of HL2 MUST be validated online, use that CD key and EVEN IF YOU BUY THE ORIGINAL your steam account WILL be nuked along with ALL the games on it including ones you paid for previously.

That is not the question. In their statement they say that only very few people who used the CD key bought the game. How can they know this? When even bought games look for them as self-defence copies, how do they know how many of these games were bought?

@d0c :lol:

@wargand : They waited a couple of days then nuked ALL the fake key accounts, including those that had since paid for the game and used a legit key having failed to get the fake key working

so if you have tryed the pirated version with a fake key, then you buy the orginal game that have a legal key. and you will not be able to connect to steam and play it, even if you have bougth the orginal. so you will be banned from steam and games from valve for life??.. is that rigth??

Well, you CAN use another account, but they caught LOTS of people out and it's not unthinkable to imagine them linking IPs.

Harsh eh?

If you use the same account then yes, if you use another Steam account then no (or at least not at the moment)
