Aww come on, be assured it is a Pyrrhic victory. Sooner or later Spud will find another host. And rather sooner than later a new technique for distributing links will appear, which is even more difficult for the assholes to track. Freenet, GNUnet and similar networks are partly (ok, smaller part) so slow because there are too few nodes. Perhaps this incident will cause this number to double? In the end they simply cannot win. |

I honestly think that instead of spendin all this money, time and effort trying (and failing) to stop p2p the movie and music companies should start thinking about the reasons WHY p2p is now so widespread and look at ways to give their customers what they (obviously) want instead of criminalising them. CHEAP, downloadable content, no extras and MUCH more variety would be enough to replace what little revenue they are losing. |

That is the exact same arguement I giove toothers when they ask why I do it. They saw this coming, everyone did, connection speeds get faster, films arrive to ya system faster, I mean come on, I can download a film really quick now, easily fast enuff to watch an avi being streamed from the net. I never have gone to the cinema, bad atmos and too many fat bastards getting in the way and coughing, I would gladly pay a few quid to down it and watch on my WS TV with my buddies. I have always said, if/when I get caught, I will point out the fact that p2p has actually encouraged me to buy more on DVD. |

I doubt this would be possible. You cannot be cheaper than free. And even if you don't mind paying a few bucks, they cannot give you what you want. Do you want uncut uncensored content? I do. But what do you think would happen when they would try to ignore national nazi laws? I live in Germland and I can imagine what would happen when some lage companys would distribute some off the stuff, which was found here, e.g. several SS-explotations. Even if I could afford every single film I downloaded, I would never accept the crippled stuff they are allowed to offer. |

But it would be a start nonetheless. The thing that does me in is the fact they have never even tried. |

First, why can't those morons understand p2p is free advertisement for them? 80% of movies I dl from eMule are crap. I am not going to pay 25 euro for a flick I haven't seen, because I can't afford it, especially if they are going to turn out crappy. If p2p ends, I'm going to stop buying DVDs (perhaps not completely, but their number will decrease to 1/10, because I won't be able to find new interesting things to buy). This is the case with many people I know and - I'm sure of it - many p2p users all around the world. So I'm not sure what they want to win here. Second, I can't see why they are trying to delegalise eMule and BT. Who says p2p is *meant* for downloading illegal stuff? There's nothing bad in having the programs, it's how you use them that matters. If we are to accept this philosophy, CD and DVD burners should be banned because you can make illegal copies with them. Fuck, if you're determined enough you can even distribute illegal copies via email. And how about borrowing DVDs? Is this a crime too? Let's delegalise DivX and mp3, let's ban the whole Internet. Let's ban cameras because they can be used to make photos of pieces of art or recording movies in cinemas. Third, statistics show that artists do not lose anything because of p2p - on the contrary, they gain popularity (see point 1). So why the fact do they have to use this stupid excuse to justify their actions? Can't they think of some *real* reasons to do it? |

Do you know what I hate the most though, is the people that actually make financial profit from piracy. Us internet geeks really do just spread the love and share our files. But the "people" at your local car boots/markets selling Pirate DVD's for ?3 or 3 for a tenner, they're the ones that need to be stopped. I mean I was at our Sunday Car Boot sale and these people were even selling the Live Aid DVD/Single - A f*cking charity product. I just thought that was low. And these people freely sell this stuff for a profit. It makes me mad, and half the time they're still selling CAM's when a DVD rip comes out so they don't even know shit about their product ![]() Now I don't really know the full story but how many SR/SC/FH/HHAH/ACF members are dodgey folk, and set up stalls selling the stuff they aquire from eMule, hardly any if none I'd reckon ![]() *edit* And aparently the reason why they get away with it is that F.A.C.T / police have to give notice to the council that they will be raiding the market on a given date in the future, and the pirates just get informed of this ![]() *edit |

I know where you are coming from Paul, it does piss me off that ppl actually make a profit from this. I admit I grab films for my friends, but only because I want to, no financial gain in it for me. My neighbour has purchased pirated DVD's before, and I was appalled at the quality, the first ever cam of a film that is shit, but I coulda got hold of a DVDRip. The way I see it is that I have always, and will always, download stuff, they do not so I just take the risk for them. At the end of the day I "will" get busted one day, and I would hate for them to get busted for something they do once in a while. |
