I just burned a 768MB movie on a 700MB CDR.

Using the NEW option, and Overburn at 85 minutes.

I used DAO.

It doesn't play on my PC, but it plays till the END on my dvd player.

Just a heads up, Don't think those movies are coasters.=P

wow, that's a LOT. i read that there's a 12MB bonus with the new option, but 68MB :o

it's strange though that the pc won't read it. usually it's the other way round. standalones are much less flexible.

btw, i just bought a dvd burner last week. does anyone know how much you can gain by overburning there?

Yes, it's weird.

Never tried it till now.

I have a dvdr burner, just don't bother with the media as I can get 100 700mb cdrs for $12.

12$? now, either you buy the crappiest cdr around or you got some good connections!

when i import them from germany they're still about 20$. and that's only about half of what i'd pay here.

i was always taught to never overburn a dvd-r.
and remember: it's 4700000000 bytes, not 4.7GB

100 x 700MB = ~70GB @ $12

25 x 4.7GB = ~ 117.5GB @ ?5.99 ($11.66)

I get more for less. ;)

that's what i realized when i wanted to backup my ripped tales from the crypt eps. if it were 4.7GB i could have put all of the eps on exactly 2 DVDRs. but now there's 1 episode left

Its because idiots can't comprehend things not being in base10 ie. the non-technically minded. The only reason we use base ten is because we have 10 fingers (or 2 thumbs and 8fingers if your perdantic). Plus for the companies it works out that they make it sound like more. Technically they advertise the real size of:
4.3772161006927490234375GB
4.37GB

There's a 7 in there at least

and if yr guna b pedantic spud we originally used imperial because of our digits (fingers have three sections - 4x3=12 - and the thumb was used for a dozen i believe :) ) could jus be stoned and spouting bull tho

well the metric system originated in Francesomewhere around 1790 and iirc counting using teh parts of the fingers to count in base 12 (and actually base 60) came from the sumerians and was also developed by the egyptians. this is why we think in 12/24 hours and 60 minutes.....
