I think it's an excellent hobby. It's almost like having a pet - you have to look after it, feed it etc - only less involving. It's very cheap too. Of course from time to time you have to put some effort into it, add sugar and filter it, but the prize is really worth the effort: in the end you have a few (dozens of) bottles of delicious wine!
So far I've tried plums (came out just perfect, clear, dry and strong, didn't think plum wine could be that good); grapewine (went down the drain unfortunately, all 20 litres :-o, just didn't want to ferment, I don't know why; perhaps the grapes were too acidic or there was too much of them) and now I'm trying rice & raisins with a small addition of tea (just filtered it through a cloth today to separate the fluid, smells and tastes excellent even though it's not ready yet). I've also tasted tea wine made by my friend, but it was a bit too sweet and a bit tasteless; I guess to make it have strong taste you need something more than tea and a few handful of raisins. Currently I'm planning to make a small amount of beetroot wine as an experiment (don't laugh
).
I was wondering whether any of our members had any experience with winemaking?
i despise tea but he made a gorgeous tea wine many years ago so don't think tea wine can't be good, his wine variations are endless and i wouldn't know where to start making it myself i just stick to what i know best
