It's a fairly small download at only 130 megs. Seemed entertaining if shallow. Some nice melee weapons like fireaxe, hammers, shovels and golf clubs. |
very hmmmm...
I can imagine, based on the slow plodding nature of zombies its always going to be difficult to keep a zombie game tense yet action packed, unfortuantely that demo really didnt do much for me.
Even the Melee weapons were pretty shoddy - I was hoping to get jiggy with the axe and mangling some zombies, but its that old generic wounding system... shame.
Still, thanks for the heads up!
What we need's a MMORPG...

urrghh... no, no, no... we need an action adventure game with lan/net play. MMORPG's nearly always suck ass, but a free roaming, huge landscaped action adventure game would rule, especially with co-op.

Man, if it was handled properly, it would rule!!!
If it were a bunch of lvl 25 soldiers w auras of zombie death, then yes it would suck.
If it were bands of joe scavengers, to which getting hold of a van and automatic weaponary is the pinacle of advancement and to whom one zombie sniff would mean game over, then i think we be cookin!
Zombie games have really been coralled by Resi Evil, someone needs to re-define survival horror.

That sounds more like action adventure if my point, rpgs are a kind of totalitarian management game by nature, whereas the aciton adventure games just drop you in and its about adventuring, but more so action.
RE4 with LAN play would be cool, but with a less linear environment it would probably be better for that, more like the other free roaming Action Adventure games like Zelda, shadowman, alice (actually thats a tad linear), etc.
Have you played RE4? You haven't played RE until you've played RE4

Oh... man, to be honest, ive never played a MMORPG, I just hear about these expansive virtual worlds and think, why not a Zombie infested one? Its actuall a good job you saved me, as I was thinkin about SW galaxies.. I think its the MMO bit that tickles me fancy as in an all in virtual land of the living dead. Sure the stat shit has its place, but not at the expense of zombie panic. Hows about a MMOA/A?? : spudthedestroyer wrote: | RE4 with LAN play would be cool, but with a less linear environment it would probably be better for that, more like the other free roaming Action Adventure games like Zelda, shadowman, alice (actually thats a tad linear), etc. Have you played RE4? Unfortunately, Ive not played RE4. The last I saw of the series would probably have been back in the day of Nemesis & Gun Survivor on PS1. Im afraid I cannae afford a console as well as upkeep of the PC. I used to enjoy RE, but always thought there was too much emphasis on adventure and nowhere near enough mindless Zombie Action, although they really had the idea of Shambling Zombies being a bonafide threat in the can, for which they can be truly commended... Actually reminds me of how much I enjoyed the Wild West Zombie town stage of Nocturne, that ruled... but the failing I always found with the REs, was as to how linear it was - you could literally draw a line through the path you had to take through the game. Though that was then... I guess times have changed quite a bit since then...
Theres not a PC release on the cards for RE4 is there do you know? Ive heard from a few places that its supposed to be the shit (actually, may have been on the Horror Games thread here...) but as its console based, have had to forget it...

Now we're talking, I've been going on about the need for one of these for so long now. I've always wanted the same thing, a post apocalyptic or near apocalyptic LAN/WAN horror game. They just haven't made anything, the nearest thing is the wanky Resident Evil Outbreak which is a linear hash job of the concept. Yup definitely on the same wavelength, I've been wanting an online game like that for ages. I'm a fan of LAN co-op myself, since the network i'm on has some very varied gaming skills, and deathmatch gets boring real fast. RE4 on a LAN would be great if not for its linear nature, free roaming citys would be hella cool. Quote: | Unfortunately, Ive not played RE4. Your missing out on an epiphany like experience then I'm afraid. Whilst it still feels like a resident evil game, its still got the adventuring, but its now much more action orientated because the gameplay is vastly improved. Well everything is vastly improved, but its now a real 3d game and plays like it should do (ie. aiming is needed, etc.). http://www.toocubed.com/screenshots.php ... =10&id=855Quote: | Theres not a PC release on the cards for RE4 is there do you know? |
Well it was supposed to be GCN exclusive but there's a PS2 version now... its getting a tad late for a port if you ask me though. These people are either deeply, deeply, deeply misguided or have the shittiest/most contrasting opinion on games imaginable (and since you seem to like the same kind of games as me, I wouldn't put much faith in their words). If it was back when it was a nintendo exclusive you might want to check for fanboyism. RE4 plays like a dream, the game has so much work in it and looks, feels, sounds and plays like a franchise renewed, yet the same things you love from the franchise are all there. I doubled checked the gaming threads first page, and i don't think you can be right about it being there... the very first post says how "fucking" awesome it is, and i and a few others backed the sentiments up.

RE4 is a STUNNING game, I rarely finish games nowadays, but RE4 I've completed 3 times (it's a great laugh the 2nd and 3rd time round with the unlimited rocket launcher) NOTHING comes close.
I've never heard anyone say it was shit, although some poor misguided ps2 fanboys probably did then had to do an about turn when it ost GC exclusivity.
Out of interest, has anyone seen the ps2 version, how shit is it in comparison?

yeah, i never bothered completing games beyond zelda a few times, but i did complete RE4 a couple of times. Its fun to play Haven't played it since though.
I have no idea how crap the ps2 version is in comparison, I really don't think there's a chance in hell its going to be any better on weaker hardware, and the game was designed around the gamecube pad so I can't see it being any better, or even as good. Depends how much effort they put into porting.

(is it just me or have there been a few glitches on the site over the past 24hrs?)
Sorry, just to clarify... THE shit is quite different from shit, infact kinda polar opposites, kinda similar to the difference between being Bollocks and The Bollocks... Sorry, just got really used to saying it now...
http://www.moviesonline.ca/zombie/
looks like were not the only ones interested in MMOZKGs
I had a look at toocubed for some resi pics, and there seemed a total lack of zombies? That was always part of the charm for me...
Mind you, if thats real, ingame gfx, I think i may need to put in some overtime...
Ive actually been on Evil Dead Regeneration tonight. Admittedly just for a tart around and check it out, but it seems a laff, even if remarkably shallow... A thousand times better than Hail to the King...
Back on subject tho, anyone else any op on LotD?

Not sure if im the first to play the real thing, but I reckon the choice of mission on the demo may not have necessarily been a good one.
Ive played through the first few missions and have got to say that with the narrative and variety of the opening stages, Ive really changed my opinion and am so far quite enjoying it. It seems as if rather than just going into areas and killing zombies, it forms the storyline of one farmers defense of his world... which is nice...
Im still quite pissed that the melee weapons only seem to do concussive damage as opposed to removing bits, and that it seems that only headshots with powerful enough weapons are 1 shot kills... but it seems to capture the frenetic survival, panic atmosphere you would expect from a zombie plague, Ive gotta admit to shouting in panic on more than one occasion already... true, there is the obligatory "sewer" level, but Ive gotta give props for featuring (to my knowledge) the first cornfield map...
still im sure after however many levels, itll get a little repetative, but im enjoying it so far!
Hurrah!
**edit** just got my hands on a fireaxe and it seems that limbs are removable! Headshots are possible (although they are shattered as opposed to removed) and I have seen legs knocked off as a result of grenades...
Hurrah and thrice hurrah!
